Cisco is likely guilty -- anyone looking into it? https://www.theverge.com/2018/5/28/17401892/intel-age-discrimination-layoffs-investigation

Baby boomers are generally lazy, entitled, outdated and whiny wastes of time and flesh who collect large salaries and expect to coast on their stale skill set through into retirement. That's their problem, the less of that garbage we have around the company, the better.

@TUnibh5-7mpb, you are correct. Why isn't the EOE (Equal opportunity employment) doing their damn job! Cisco should be fine and shutdown by now if they were hiring practices were investigated!

One more thing to consider: By filing a DFEH complaint, you are exposing to the world, including the U.S. Department of Labor who does monitor these filings, that this discrimination has happened. To continue the analogy, you are waking up a dragon that may take some action. Even though you may not feel any direct benefit, it is one step you can take at no cost to yourself to try to stop discrimination.

I really like your analogy - it's pretty much true - but have a problem with your statement "You can win in another company". One of the worst things about age discrimination is that it's really tough to find another job after the age of 50 and virtually impossible after 60. Much of your network has retired or are themselves looking for employment. Even if you were the top of your field, getting someone to even read your resume let alone interview you is a long shot.

It is this simple: you waive your rights to your separations package if you decide to lawyer up. You are armed with a slingshot, and you are running uphill towards the Cisco castle -- alone. Its lawyers man the towers, the gates, and the keep. Until hundreds of your countryman decide to find one or more mercenaries (er lawyers) whose expertise is anti-age discrimination siege tactics, you won't make it out of the tree-line. Cisco has a legal army with years of training and funding. They will bog you down in court, and deplete your time, energy and funds.

Make the smart move, take the package, waive your right to petition. Live to fight another day. You can win in another company which will appreciate your contributions and reward you accordingly. And who knows, you may find yourself in a decision-making role, where vendors like Cisco won't be able to even compete. #Slay the Cisco Dragon!

While this article reports that age discrimination is happening at IBM and Intel, it does not say anyone is taking action on this. Age discrimination will continue to occur as long as employees continue to allow it. If you look back over the posts regarding age discrimination at Cisco, it appears there are lots of people who believe it is happening but have seen only one person who is standing up to Cisco. It is hard, it is costly, and there are no guarantees you will be successful but if you choose to do nothing then you have little right to complain. At minimum employees who feel they have been the victims of age discrimination should be filing a DFEH complaint. It's free and you do not need to have an attorney. Age discrimination is continuing to happen, at least in part, because we allow it to.
