Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

ABU - the mayhem commences

Morale is at super low levels. BCG has been in the building like for ever. It is the uncertainty which is the most unnerving. Also all along the messaging has been super confusing- perhaps deliberate. Management was saying all the time - oh this is not about head count - but it really is. Just a why not be upfront and say what it is rather than trying to couch it in fancy buzzwords like value chain etc etc. Very disappointing.

The college graduates won’t stay away after reading the comments on this site. With the big salaries Chevron pays and the minimal oversight and accountability that goes on, they would feel like they are back in college, partying it up and getting paid well to boot.

What a disfunctional company. New college graduates need to read this blog and stay the hell away

Of course there's gonna be grammar nazis. One of the greatest skills at cvx is developing or peer reviewing the "messaging" of PowerPoint slides.

This board is for any topic related to Chevron or retirement! No limits. Keep it civil.

“post ideas about finding new employment, etc.”... you must be joking! Try linkedin, or a job search site, or start randomly writing letters to your favorite ex-coworkers. If you were fired (or, sorry, laid off) from Chevron, this is the last place to be spending your time! This site is for rumors about layoffs, people worried they might be laid off, bullies with small d---s who want to prey on people worried about being laid off, and people so anal retentive about spelling they don’t type posts on a small phone with their fat thumbs in a dark bar. Next question!

"worthless job and miserable pension"??? I thought that this was the layoffs forum, you know, where people who got let go post ideas about finding new employment, etc. Is there a website somewhere that anyone knows of where such things are discussed? Thanks.

5sks- it’s only nothing nobodies like you who worry about your worthless job and miserable pension. Why don’t you get an education instead of spewing out senseless toxic verbiage.

5tjt, No, The only worthless little pricks on here contributing absolutely nothing are the trolls criticizing the critique of grammar and spelling from a "supposedly" educated professional employee of CVX. At least the grammar police person was responding to a post on the topic, which was indeed quite cryptic and not far from unintelligible gibberish. But keep defending the senseless gibberish as if you posted it. That's quite telling ..lol

“paridym” [sic] was misspelled, but I do not think it was used “out of normal context”: i.e., new way of thinking. The vocal little d--k people on this site who have nothing to contribute but grammer check and personal insults get old after a while. LMAO- boy leading the pack.

Agreed. Nothing but trolls on this site. Except actually in this case the "LMAO" guy was correct. The term was misspelled and used out of normal context. It appears that the uneducated one was the first poster. That's quite common for the latest "buzz words" overused by millennials.

I totally agree with you -4rtt. But, that “LMAO” guy better save his money. You can’t fix stupid, no matter how much education you try to cram between his ears. He’s constipated up there.

"paridym"???? LMAO. Love it when people who can't spell use words out of context that they don't understand to try to appear literate.

NH is a good leader and will drive the right results. The ABU needs to change to the new paridym...It’s not about splashing cash any more. At some point there is a reckoning and there better be a profit for all that money spent...

Service groups will get whacked up to 40%. SCM, IT, HR, Finance, etc. according to someone who can't keep her mouth shut.

I got a laugh from the comment about management negotiating with BCG. BCG does actually run the business.

Yeah, you are right -2qko. If only BCG can also do that for us too.

Why should Chevron be held to a different standard than the independents?

Should the investors accept higher operating costs, poorer profitability, worse returns? Chevron needs to differentiate itself somehow (or at least learn to be competitive).

Now, Chevron has a few legacy assets which print cash (cough TCO), but fields decline and concessions expire. The company needs to find ways to discover, develop and operate new resources in a manner consistent with (or better than) their peers.

Chevron management doesn’t know how to run the business. They make simple decisions but the company survives in spite of itself. Very sad they need to bring in an outside firm to unravel its mistakes and make personnel reduction decisions for them. Why does Chevron management get paid the money they get? The shareholders should be asking this question all the time.

I thought it was funny when the poster said the new MD would manage the layoffs when everyone knows Chevron rubber stamps whatever BCG comes up with.

BCG are ruthless and have no idea how the industry really works. They just present stats to management based on indipendents and management buys into the numbers. Sure there's a lot of fluff in BUs and more so in ABU that could/should be culled, but BCG numbers are below realistic, leading to increased workload per individual to unstainable levels resulting in less efficient operations and exposure to safety risk. Management needs to push back and negotiate with BCG and not accept what they say for fear of executive retribution. 'nuff said.
