Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Employee survey

There has been an internal survey sent out this week which asks employees to rank IBM and it's competitors on reputation and whether you think they are doing well. Included in that is a section on Ginni, which asks if you think she is doing a good job or not and would you recommend them.

The survey is being conducted by Harris. So someone (or the board) has decided to see what the water temperature is like among the great unwashed. Timing is interesting coming directly after large number of layoffs. Pressure seems to be on Ginni to prove she is turning things around.

"It doesn't matter if employees report bad news or not. It gets lost in the layers of useless management between actual workers and Ginni. That has always been true even in better times"

Reminiscent of the old joke, which I cannot find. It starts out with the lowest level workers saying "what has been put in place is sh**ty", and each level above it softens the message , so by the time it reaches the CEO, the message becomes "what has been put in place is fuel for growth".

I would stay away from this as if it were a bowl of Ebola. I don't trust the company any further than I could outsource the senior executives.

I got it. Responded honestly (included honest negativity about Ginni and IBM's realtionship with it's people). I mean, how many IBMers would answer that IBM does everything it can to prevent layoffs? I don't really care if it's anonymous or not -- the survey apparently went to more than just IBMers, but even if it's not anonymous, I have at least some small modicum of protection of the law where I work (which, it appears, much to my disgust, our US and India people do not).

They are certainly logged, irrespective of whether you are asked to login or not. Your IP address is captured and from this, your machine hostname and/or MAC address can be determined. If you're too critical, expect a "red-flag" on your HR record.

The surveys are logged and become one more data point fed into Watson so it can crank out a list of undesirables. It is IBM, everyone lies, all the time.

Already RA'd and completed survey honestly .. one of the reasons the C-Suite have no idea what is going on is because IBMers rarely report bad news up the management chain.

Indeed, it's much better we don't voice our opinions and just watch the company go under, at which point we lose our jobs anyway.

Every survey tool will collect your IP address. Every. Single. One. So know that if they want to find out who you are, they can.

Must be a small subset of folks getting it.

I never respond to these. I can’t afford to lose my job right now. They don’t need an employee survey to gauge how Ginni is doing. Just need to walk through an office and look at people’s faces.

I'm already RA'd and sent me the survey... not much they can do. Not sure these are that carefully targeted.

I responded honestly. I didn't have to log in. It claimed to be anonymous etc. and I believe it is. I don't think the URL was encoded with any identifying info. Will wait with anticipation to see if I'm RA'd as a result of my negative answers in the survey. I doubt it will happen, but then again I don't particularly care if it does.

DO NOT RESPOND.... I am ex IBM and worked in HR. These surveys are NOT ANONYMOUS and invariably have ulterior motives. You were warned.

No one will respond, because IBM internal surveys are never anonymous. You always have to login with your email. I certainly would never answer honestly, you will be flagged for RA.
