"I guess Mark Hurd thinks by bringing down costs they will achieve higher margins"

That has been the cornerstone for Corporate America as long as I can remember.

You must not have s---ed up to your manager enough. It's all relative.... if the others in your group are s---ing up more and the manager feels more sure of their loyalty.... then you could be the one to go.

Has nothing to do with competence or experience. Loyalty is the only thing that counts. Just like with DJT and the mafia.

I assume you are in TKs org, since you posted here. Any more info on your role or location? Are there others laid off with you.

Got laid off today after almost 18 years of service. There seems to be absolutely no justification provided for why. I guess Mark Hurd thinks by bringing down costs they will achieve higher margins 🤬

@TbXbuRU-ysk , not sure how long management knew, but we had no advance notice. Guy next to me came in as usual yesterday morning, he left his desk around 10AM, came back around 1030, gathered his things and left. Upper management called a meeting at 11AM and announced the news. Everyone still in shock today... guy was with the company for 13 years

Everything goes down the tubes after Oracle buys it. Oracle never intends to support anything long term; they are always looking for the short term gain.

Sorry, but Java was a problem long before Oracle bought Sun.

Sure, it was never perfect. But it was also never on the nightly news until Oracle. I also don't remember the department of homeland security recommending people uninstall it until Oracle as well.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-java-security/u-s-warns-on-java-software-as-security-concerns-escalate-idUSBRE90A0S320130111

We never had as many zero days before Oracle:

https://www.infoworld.com/article/2613641/java/java-zero-day-holes-appearing-at-the-rate-of-one-a-day.html

We had a crazy long security backlog, and TK wouldn't let us put any resources into fixing it until LE himself started asking why Java was in the news.

Sorry, but Java was a problem long before Oracle bought Sun. Java and Adobe top two vectors for malware for years!

You want a secure system, uninstall Java!

So let's layoff all those JDK devs!

Oracle is already one step ahead of you.

Quality has been a huge problem for Java ever since Oracle acquired us. The security bugs are just another symptom of a dev org that is spread way too thin. They keep letting experienced people go and either replacing them with Indians or not replacing them at all. Then last year they cut almost all of our testing team. We no longer have the resources to ship a product that works.

Well, one way to reduce the number if embarrassing security fixes that Java needs is to stop adding new features to the language. So let's layoff all those JDK devs!

Actually, is Java a first choice for new development any more? More modern languages actually make it harder to make certain classes of programming errors, especially in highly parallel multicore and distributed environments. You know, those modern deployment styles that Oracle never saw coming.

More fake news. Java is a top priority for Oracle.

LOL. Tell that to our JavaFX team. Or our SQE team. Or our embedded team. Or our release engineering team. Or our infrastructure team.

Going to JavaOne this year?

How reliable is this rumor/news? In the era of mass lies, I am extra skeptical and cautious. Can someone chime in with some info that may further validate statements?
