I see so many people here wishing to be laid off because of severance, as if that will solve all of their problems.
Folks, be really careful what you wish for. Severance might sound great on paper, but by the time it's in your pocket there is much less of it (much higher tax bracket) and you have so many more expanses you need to cover in full (medical, dental...) that you'll be wondering where did it all go much sooner than you expect.
I'm not saying it's not a nice safety net, but it's not as good as some people imagine. Just be prepared for it all in case you are laid off.
