Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What does indirect mean?

Keep seeing people say that stores are being converted into indirect. Can somebody please explain what does this mean?

I don't work in a store (obviously), just curious to figure out what's going on.

Oh, and I've tried searching, before somebody sends me to Google, came out empty.

There are those type of jobs. There are also Verizon employees that manage the relationship with local and national indirect locations.

Are there back office/corporate jobs at these Indirects? I’ve seen companies like “We R Wireless” and “Cellular Sales of Knoxville”, so surely they have Finance, IT, and HR Departments that are hiring. Right?

not directly owned by verizon corp. like a franchise. verizon pays them for sales but does not handle the day to day operations.
