Anyone receive letters about being sent to collections if they don’t “return” the over payment?

I have not received one about collections. I did receive my over payment request. The problem is they don't say how they came up with the number they provide. I was going to go back to them and ask for an itemized statement showing how they came up with the number. Is there anyone who didn't pay it and was sent to collections?
Like trying to squeeze blood from a stone ..rediculous.
