Oracle Korea workers go on strike

"The labor union had met with the company more than 10 times since last December, but couldn't reach an agreement," said Kim Chul-soo, leader of Oracle Korea's labor union. "We conducted a strike vote and decided to call the walkout after 96 percent of voters agreed on the strike action."

The union held the strike vote for three days from Wednesday to Friday. Among its 600 members, 82.5 percent took part in the vote and 96 percent of them voted for the strike.

The labor union has been negotiating three points with the company. It has demanded job stability as the company has frozen wages for 10 consecutive years. It also demanded the company recognize the organization and improve employee welfare.

They work 100+ hours per week? Why haven't they bolted? Is it that hard for middle aged workers in Korea to get a new job? Or is it because other IT multinationals are just as bad places to work (as mentioned in in the video clip)?

So true !

This is it in a nutshell:

Cynical is the way to be when looking at Oracle. Top level management only watches the money flow. They don't care about creating good products, they believe customers are stupid and they can BS the money out of them. Lawyers to back them up. Oracle is a huge organized crime scam. By @Tgihi5E-1ihd

Oracle HQ should be ashamed of what it has happened in Korea.

Note the frozen wages for 10 years, earnest trolls who post here with B.S. inquiries of “I have job offers from Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Oracle. Which one should I take?”

To the OP, thanks for this post and the article link. I don’t hold out much hope for the strikers and their demands. More likely than their demands being met is Oracle moving the unit’s job functions to Romania or India. But maybe I’m just cynical.

Thanks. Great post. Looked up a number of articles. Seems that the same model is global. Hire the kids cheap and force out the experienced worker. I love HR people. Soulless ghouls.
