Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Watson Health Dallas a.k.a Phytel Layoff

Yesterday 80% of the workforce was let go from Dallas. What a joke! They never could come up with any product lines and/or reqs. How they will be successful. They just burnt money and blame it on the poor IT people where upper management failed to take any initiative from the very beginning. Big Blue lost its mojo. CEO must go. What i sthe BOD doing now a days? After Buffet drops all the IBM stocks, this should be their wake up call.

70-80% was in fact about right .. they are in damage control mode playing it down, not even discussing it internally .. and the upper execs that flew it into the ground are all still there - no accountability....

Ginni and C-suite did not see this coming in five long years? Never bothered to ask critical questions after betting the farm on strategic initiatives?

Shareholders need to respond.

Anybody "woke" yet?

Your masters (the ultra rich and governments - it's their God that enslaves most all of us; which has been so since the beginning of time) are using you to develop the technology (AI) to use it against you... not many humans will be needed in the future...

Too many marketing types hype the carp out of Watson in medicine.

What its doing is taking a bunch of medical texts and other patient data and trying to find a pattern so that it could recommend that for patient X, they should try the following... And as someone already pointed out... the docs in the US already have the protocols down pat and there isn't enough patient data to show an alternative if the prevalent treatment doesn't work.

IBM needs to change their management and their core culture.

They need to have some seasoned veterans in the industry who are from the outside to get engaged in turning the company around.

So I have a question for the folks in Watson Health.

  1. Do you think these layoffs were offshoring related??? I ask this because folks who I know at Cleveland and MD Anderson have said to me “Watson is a bear to load/use, and it’s health recommendations offer no advantage vs what the current recommendations being made. I conclude from that, that most Doc’s in the USA and Europe are well informed, and pretty much keep up on the current protocols. When you move to more remote locations (Think China, India, and the third world, the recommendation coming from Watson are statically different/better vs what the Doc’s are recommending.) Again I conclude from that, that the third world doc’s are just less informed due to lack of travel, lack of education on the current protocols, and much bigger patient loads. I would say the patient population is most likely an influence too. So my question is really do you think the Watson health initiative is being moved to the third world as that’s where the business is, and customization is being worked out for those markets??? I would assume the USA and Europe would continue into Watson research, but more as a research project, and less as something to sell

She is such a politician. Look at her right there in front kissing a--. Signs she is a true politician, watch her on CNBC the other morning, she answered in circles, everything, not ever really answering the question
