Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Office time U.S.

Management will soon release a memo regarding in-office hours for the U.S., possibly all of North America. This memo is in response to entry credential data logs from each site. Unknown as to whether this data is being used for other reasons than to monitor attendance.

They tried this at our site 2-3 times now.

It's never worked and only the lonely losers showed up to the office. Then they just complained that others were wfh and its not fair. Nobody listened to their complaints. lol

Eventually they powered their brains up and started to wfh as well. Took em a while though.

Got to love them Bluebirds

Hewlett Packard did the same thing and people would badge in and go home. Then the brain trust started sending hall guards down the rows of cubes to see who was actually there. If you fell below some line for attendance you were notified by your manager, and received a red flag in your file. What's next, daily nap time?

IBM long up their d---s for the next BIG layoffs in June . This happened last year. Take your summer vacation USA team before the BIG axe falls. Little by little the sites will close up . Then a big sell off per my contacts .

They tried this at the call center in Atlanta last year. All the people that worked from home were assigned a desk. It lasted a couple of months at best and most went back to wfh. The place is noisy and now all those seats are empty. The center is well under 50% occupied.

IBM will get rid of everyone that shows up in the target area of a spreadsheet. They wait a month or two and bring on replacements that take years to train. Most leave the company for greener pastures

before they are productive. The cycle of layoffs continues every quarter while top line sales and margins continues to decline. Is this the definition of insanity?

-2dtc It is hard to estimate someone's value to IBM, but if you figure each IBMer is now doing the work of 5 or 6 former IBMers each remaining one must have value. IBM management clearly does not understand (yet) that they have doomed the company but that does not mean it hasn't happened. And every IBMer knows they have to take care of themselves because no one else will. So call them whiners if you want, but they are just trying to survive.

This IBM company is just a total joke and a waste of time. I am going to see if I can transfer to the HR department... I am sure I can come up with even more evil plans to get rid of people... unbelievable the amount of money they must be spending just to come up with the next way of getting g rid of people. May be they should just instead do it like HP did... just announce you are getting rid of 75k-100k people and be done with it.

What a bunch of pathetic whiners with an over inflated sense of their value to Ibm.

.....and that is exactly what they want. Keep chipping away at morale by reinstating 1970's working practices and hey presto..... more resignations. The issue with this method of course is that it's invariably the most capable people who leave first.

For Sao Paulo, that would mean leaving home by 5 am every day to get at office by 8 am.

Definitely, if true, an invitation to leave sooner...from IBM.

That seems to be another great decision from this dying company. I travel most weeks to visit customers (Lab Services), wonder if they will make me go to the office instead.... looking at the office I am attached to, I see 2200 people attached to that office, but for sure that office can accommodate no more than a third of that at best. Looks like it may be a rat race daily to get a spot... may be they will set up tents in the parking lot for the overflow!!! Make sure you take public transportation because you may not get a parking space. As always great job IBM!!!

Just one more example of why IBM is a failing business with old and outdated executive leadership. The board of directors in negligent and not abiding b.y their fiduciary responsibility.

Also coming to UK and EMEA soon. It's a BAIN initiative so obviously has ulterior motives.

Glad they’re working so hard on that rather than the actual problems with the business.

If they are going to require me to be in the office from 8 - 5 that will become my work day. No more after hours email, calls or other work. Can't fix stupid...
