They laid off Watson Health people and hire 1800 in France.

Sad thing is that many companies are now realising that more can be done in less time. Motivated employees spend less time in worthless meetings and on hopeless calls with arrogant VPs. They have control over their work.
And let's not start on ClearWay.
They won't hire 1800 in France, they SAY they will hire 1800. Makes a big difference. Actually we all know how it will end : after 3 or 4 years when only 500 are hired (and government subsidies cashed, and 1000 "classic" IBMers RA'ed in parallel) they will say that economy has changed and initial plan is no longer valid. Meanwhile this 1800 number will have made the buzz and hidden the layoff subject.
IBM continues to play a shell game with jobs. They are masters of deceit and have played this game for years. The end result is a failed company and leadership team that is so far behind leading tech companies like Alphabet, Amazon and Microsoft to name a few. It makes me sad.
They won't hire those people. They will have their sweat shops in India and Eastern Europe create hundreds of "open" positions on their website to counter the news of the layoffs. Whenever a customer expresses concern about the layoffs the sales guys will shrug their shoulders and say " all I know is that we have x,000 open jobs online right now"
Their Troll Farm will also spam Glassdoor and Indeed with fake positive reviews.
