While we didn't have layoffs last week, we all know they are coming sooner or later.
Considering my age and years with Southwestern, I'm convinced my days here are numbered.
I'm trying to figure out where to go to if/after I'm laid off, but wherever I look the situation is the same.
Anybody have any ideas on where to go if you are over 50 for a decent job after being laid off?
If you are ove 60, it’s going to be tough. If you are over 65, it seems to be impossible to get anyone to talk to you let alone get hired even for contract work.

Good advice from 'let go in 2016,' heard the 'not dating yourself' by putting in dates from recruiters recently too.
Some companies located near SWN are currently looking for contractors in multiple depts./disciplines. Network as much as possible, update your resume to reflect modern skills (ex: listing COBOL is probably not a plus to getting hired) and figure out how much money you need to live on. Don't worry too much about being paid what you're worth or what you made previously. Oil stays high a while longer then more opportunities for industry experienced employees and at better salaries will come.
Walmart, Lowes - I'd add Starbucks. Do something where you will be seen and recognized as 'being different' in a good way. A simple conversation can result in a job lead or opportunity. Be willing to do short projects where your skills matter most; enough small projects can keep your income going.
Why are people on here that got laid off 2 years ago?
I was laid off in March 2016 when things were really tanking. At the time I was 58, and landed on my feet after 3 months. I found a company that age was not the only criteria. Most companies are not going to inquire about birth dates until you are hired, because that would be discrimination. If you have not done so start working on getting in shape and look as fit as possible. Today 50 is like early 40's in the past, so I really don't think that your age will get you. On your resume just put down the last 20 years, and don't date yourself with graduation dates. The key is to get in the door and have a chance to convince the prospective employer your are the one for the job. Also, be flexible on your income. Most likely you will get less of an offer, but once you start proving yourself that could increase fast. Stay positive because experience will carry you a long way.
Is Walmart out of the question? Lowes, Home Depot, Waffle House?
My point being is that corporate jobs prefer younger, educated professional they can pay a little less but with more energy and enthusiasm and can still be brainwashed rather easily.
