Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Publicity stunt?

Walmart will help funding college degrees for all of the associates who have been with the company for at least three months.

I wonder if this is a publicity stunt or a genuine attempt to help out employees. Knowing Walmart, it's most likely the first option and we'll soon find out what's the catch.

Walmart doesn’t “expect” you do all these things you should expect it from yourself. Success takes hard work. I see people every day pursuing part-time education on top of full time work and family; whether that’s completing a GED or graduate school. The way I see it if you publicize an affordable college program you will attract people who want to earn a college degree. Implicitly those will be better, harder workers who have a vested interest in high performance so they can keep the college benefit. It’s a win for the Associate and a win the company.

@TqYgpIn-2xme is right. Quit trying to make a career out of retail. Put down your meth, booze, fake oxy, whatever. Pick up a book or a class, and learn enough to get good-paying work. Teach your kids and grandkids to do the same.

@TqYgpIn-2xme

You either have to be in management or somebody from home-office and from your language that’s typical. I’m sure you got your training!

I hope you feel big and bad with that computer mouth!

Walmart doesn't expect you to have multiple jobs, go to college and raise a family........you chose your path in life without planning before acting. Don't be making babies if you don't know how to pay for em or raise em......make your bed and lay in it..... don't expect a company to be your housekeeping and maid service!

All the lazy a--, whiney victims on here Excel at the blame game and fail at the ownership game.

Welcome to the world losers!!!!

I think it's great, rewarding and helping people who actually want to do more and work for more. Not just staying at one place stagnant expecting a yearly handout for showing up. That's what the hourly rates for, Want a raise, work for it, I did. I expected 2% and was given 4. But again I don't expect more for doing my job. I do extra things so I can get the extra raise for doing above expectations. Oh and I've worked for Walmart 17 years, no it's not perfect, things can be better but can't happen overnight. Getting rid of dead weight is a start, doing more for those who do not is a start. Who knows what's next. Change is just starting.

Yes, PR stunt!!

On customers first program how do they expect you to go through college, or have a second job, and have a family life?

Just another way of not raising wages!

Maybe a good program with right circumstances and better understanding.

That's great, can't even afford to give people a raise but they'll pay for college for people who will leave this sh--ty company as soon as they graduate. Thanks again Walmart!
