Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

UK getting hit tomorrow(5/31)?

Overheard some colleagues mentioning that folks in the UK will get the axe tomorrow. Being tomorrow is the last day of the fiscal year, I wouldn't be surprised.

For the past few years ORCL has been developing the EMEA hub in Bucharest Romania. At the moment it is a fairly cheap country to hire and for real estate. Which make sense on the financial level.

They started to hire support engineer and slowly all the small suppport center got closed and support engineer laid off. It started with Ireland in Dec 2016 and finished with Spain Mar 2018 and UK yestetday.

Lots of very experienced support people are gone and I hope they will all find something intetresting.

Customers on the other hand are up for a shock. The Bucharest hub is not well staffed and most of their people have at most two years xp on the products and none are native speakers of the many languages they support. The hub might become very good eventually but there will have a painfull transition.

Received a farewell email from a senior UK Engineer who has provided expert, quality advice and guidance over the years.

They did not deserve this happening to them.

A week ago I renewed our service contract before they'd even raised the invoice. They wouldn't listen that they're a bureacratic over-complicated nightmare to deal with. Others messed-up, now trained engineers have been given their notice today 31/5/2018. How many remaining now feel emboldened to walk in to the office tomorrow and advocate for a Sun/Oracle solution? -- vanisingly few?

@TrY93bN-ali HW support was this morning, SW support was done a few years ago. To my knowledge there is no support in the UK or maybe some cloud related support but I would not be surprised that it is already done in Romania.

I'm sorry to hear about this. There were some excellent, top notch support folks in EMEA when I worked at Sun and Oracle. At least in the UK they have a pretty good package and don't have to worry about paying huge COBRA premiums.

UK support is gone. It complete the cycle: all EMEA tech support is now in the Bucharest hub.

It must be about 50 people.

HR mentioned more of these meetings today with different groups.
