Collaboration and a shared goal is of no benefit in getting there.

Not making a comment on unions specifically but, when a person has historically wanted to advance his or her well-being, he or she has accepted the obvious, that it's far more beneficial to band together. Whether hunting, going to war, building a home, seeking transport, raising crops, or seeking out individual specialties, it's a no brainer to band together. Going it alone puts one at a distinct disadvantage.

" Why do the teamsters use a horse as a mascot?

Because its the only working animal known to man to sleep standing up" -- an idiot @1yje

What about flamingos, zebras and elephants, dummy? Your joke makes no sense.

I instead imagine that the Teamsters are always standing, so they're up for any task at a moments notice?

Maybe @1yje, if you would spend some time educating yourself instead of looking up right wing jokes, you would know that the term "teamster" originally referred to a person who drove a team of draft animals, usually a wagon drawn by oxen, horses, or mules.

Try going to a teamster site and get schooled with with reality. Discover that the Teamsters logo consists of two horses heads, representing the complimentary forces of strength that are inherent to the Teamsters organization. The horses’ names are Thunder and Lightning, Thunder is male, Lightning female. Together, they symbolically represent the pillars of the Teamsters organization: quality and power, dignity and justice, strength and morality. The Teamsters are built on pillars that make it their duty to ensure that their Members’ needs are taken care of, that workers have access to their rights, and that their organization has the staying power to persist through the years.

Every union member understands that there is power in numbers. The Teamsters strength can be found in the collaboration of their many honest, hard-working men and women. @1yje, a life without dignity and respect for oneself and one another is an unfulfilled life. The Teamsters stand for the equal treatment of all workers on the job and for the fair treatment of their Members in all aspects of their lives. By providing health benefits, scholarship funds, assistance programs, mental health initiatives and community involvement opportunities, they facilitate their Membership in being upstanding citizens within their communities and enable the betterment of their members families health.

The same union employees we replaced two years ago during the last strike are still employed. mean while I've been laid off for 5 months with no job prospects as a 59 year old even with three AWS certs, ITIL, and 5 network certs and 20+ years experience.

Hiring now, but for how long? A part of the future of the company is in the wireline side providing transport facilities and outside plant infrastructure. The present hiring are all unprotected employees and when they are well trained there may be a nice package to get the old timers/protected employee off the books.

When that happens the Union is about as hamstrung as they can be. Eventually the company will run with a small number of inside and outside techs with the remaining workforce being supplemented with contractors.
