Thread regarding IBM layoffs

A Permanent Spot on IBM's Chopping Block

I’ve been getting warnings about possible RA from my mgr for about 18 months now. Somehow, every time, I survive – but the threat never goes away. I frankly think that all of this is crafted to put an additional pressure on older and experienced workers – the logic assumes that the worker will feel insecure and will start looking (and find) employment somewhere else.

No severance paid, no legal inquires, low risk and savings all around for Gini and the rest of the executive management. That’s your brave new IBM, I’d bet that any frank inquiry into employee satisfaction would yield numbers so dismal, they would found no match in the history of the corporate enterprise.

IBM is just a middlemen shop, so is ascenture, TCS, Infosys etc... That's similar to a brokerage firm in operations. Brokers care only for their cut and profit margins. They'll always care about their profits by hiring lesser experienced guys and subsequently booting out the highly experienced ones.

To all the people who have more than 15-20 years of experience, please contact the clients directly. They surely have plans for enhancing their business for next 5 years, every business has that... They'll surely value you experience whether it's technical or functional or both. Try to work as a freelance contractor. Take my word, the clients would never let you go because business never stops.

It's a numbers game and sooner or later, your number WILL come up and you will be laid off. Try and get something else and leave on your own terms if you can.

Our location hardly has anyone in the building anymore due to all the RA's year after year.

Most are praying IBM just closes it and allows remote work.

It's such a dumpy town everyone just wants out.

LOL

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with your IBM product.

Its cheaper when someone quits. Even with the 1 month severance even after 20-30 or more years.

Agreed, as ibmer, I have seen the chopping board never stop since Ginni took over. It just getting more frequent than the last few years ago. The scale from month to week of hearing RA and team layoff.
