It Will Never Happen Again (Except This Week)

I thought SWN would be my forever company. That started to change in 2016 (see thread title is from our leader). I just had a quick meeting with my boss and he said and I quote “be ready this week. Specifics will be given to me on Wednesday”. Don’t have to be a geophysicist to get his message. I know now Thursday is layoffs.

Bet you are thinking. Why would someone post this? My boss and I are tight and he has encouraged me to look for another job for the last few months. Took the advice. Well I am going to turn in my two weeks notice on Friday. Start my new job on June 25th with another E&P that is more diversified after the oil and it’s uptick. No downside here. Either get a severance package or not. Does not matter.

You do realize ALL of these replies start with @Tvjfa3x, yours included. You're going to need to be more specific about who you are blasting. A lot of these comments are from people reeling from losing their jobs. Just because they aren't heartless like you doesn't mean they are "whining".

To “Tvjfa3x”, sorry but I’m not a manager and will likely be in same layoff boat as a lot of people. I’m just not a whiny baby who expects a free handout from a company. I do my job and I get paid for it. I expect nothing more or less. Why everyone feels entitled to more than that, I don’t know. Execs always get more than regular employees. If you don’t like, then go kiss the right asses and become one yourself. I highly doubt you’d be willing to give up your millions for the sake of others either.

How the hell would you know? It's your job as a manager to manage your employees, so if they're not doing their job, it's your fault too.

Most people are smart enough to realize it's more about who you know than what you know or how hard/long you work, so I'm willing to bet you got where you are cause you know the right people. Cronies stick together. The fact that you're in upper management and posting ignorant comments like this (on this site) is pretty disheartening to people about to get laid off. Sure you don't care though, cause you got your disproportionally high paycheck to support your ego.

Well, I'm also a SWN employee however not in BIS. But I am a friend of a friend who knows the person that monitors the traffic to this site. You're all in trouble talking crap about SWN execs! LOL

I’m in BIS and we can definitely see who is visiting this site (and any other site for that matter), but no one cares. You should see the amount of traffic to dice, indeed, careerbuilder, etc.

How are you getting screwed? You agreed to do a job for a certain amount of pay. I assume you’ve been getting that pay. If your job is no longer needed, why should a company keep paying you? From the comments on this board, it sounds like a lot of people have intentionally not been doing their jobs, while still getting paid. Sounds like the company and shareholders are the ones getting screwed. Maybe you are new to the concept of public companies, but SWN doesn’t “owe” any thing more than the compensation you both agreed to. SWN does however owe its shareholders some return on their investments.

This f-ing s---s! Bill Way and his cronies will surely get some huge bonuses for saving the company a lot of money by cutting costs aka layoffs. Those of us getting the pink slip are getting screwed hard with no lube if they give us less than 2 months severance pay.

2016 layoff mueller was ceo. I started swn a year after him. He was fair and treated people with respect

2018 layoff no “way” will it be fair. Current leadership only interested in protecting themselves. Likely not the same 2 month gravy train.

This isn’t about the people. This is about saving the company’s future. We are going get short changed. Glad I saved my last bonus.

I believe or more like hope that SWN will stay true to their values and treat the outgoing laid off employees with respect and give them the full 2 months package. I'm sure a few of the execs still have some conscience left and not just s--- the company dry for themselves with their ungodly huge pay and bonuses.

As to the post on about giving notice and two months; indeed true in 2016... but we don’t know this time . If it’s below the levels to require 2 months notice; this might not be true .. and severance might not be as generous.

I don’t know anything; just I think you should keep options open ...

Of course, those famous words from January 22, 2016. Who can forget? Laughing all the way to the bank! Doesn’t sound like OP would be getting a package. Just a deadend job! As for me, I’m certain I’m getting the ax. I haven’t done anything productive in 3 months. I’ve been interviewing though, and likely have an offer with the flexibility to start whenever SWN decides to end my employment, plus I won’t have to drive to BFE anymore!. New employer is doing me a solid and offering a sign on bonus as they’re in serious need of people like me! Good luck to all!

To all SWN-ers : If you do get laid off from SWN this Thursday and give your 2 weeks notice on Friday or any day within the next 2 months, there goes your severance package. Technically, you are still an employee until the end of the severance period which was 2 months (assuming the severance package is the same as it was in 2016). You sign some kind of an agreement that if you start new employment elsewhere, then SWN is off the hook. They cut you completely loose. package and all. Good luck to all!!
