How was github funded?
An act of desperation by Microsoft. $7.5 billion for a company with essentially no revenue? They need to put that $7.5 billion into Cloud infrastructure, where they have fallen way behind both AWS and now Google. Google has 15 regions, each with at least 3 availability zones. Microsoft has only 2 with availability zones. Azure's network is much slower than AWS and Google and has less functionality. Customers are moving off Azure and on to Google and AWS. What does Github get them? There is already integration between Microsoft developer tools and Github. The vast majority of developers on Github are NOT .net or Windows developers, and they don't (and shouldn't) trust Microsoft.
More billionaires just what we need. These big dollar acquisitions mean larger monopolies and less choice and innovation. Makes the MS antitrust battles of the ‘90’s look quaint by comparison.
