Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

FY19 sales pillars.!

I don't work in sales but received this corporate wide

mail today-- describing the so called FY19 sales pillars, etc..

there are 6 or 7..half are preaching to move customers to cloud,

if they are 'ready'/willing..but surprisingly the move

to engineered systems are still there-- "..if client is not ready,

give them the pitch for on-prep move to Exa- HW etc.."

so with 'class-of' sales crew starting in FY-19..can bunch of

newbee kids do this work?

“Third prize is you’re fired. Get the picture?”

from the Immersion, Selling Priorities for FY19 actually are

-1st priority : sell Autonomous DB and Autonomous Svcs, Sell ERP

-2nd priority: if you are so dumb, stupid, idiot, and not able to sell prio 1, upgrade all the Oracle IB to OCI.

-3rd priority: if you are not able to sell prio 1 ad 2 you are useless to Oracle and will get fired soon. meanwhile, please sell Exadata to existing customer.

some comments: no words about Onprem SW, Lics, EngSys other than Exadata, Server, Storage, Tape. simply put, those are no more existing.

focus is "Installed Base", meaning also the genius upwards have finally realized OCI is not getting any new customer, just forcing old customer to migrate.

seems really a desperate move to maximize the footprint using (better said: crunching) the IB and preparing for the unavoidable bad results in the next quarters.

ZFS is a file system. When you are talking about ZFS appliance from Oracle it’s a storage platform like netApp or EMC. ZFS storage appliance runs on Solaris.

2imy, ZFS is available on Ubuntu. Not that I would have any such crap on my Ubuntu systems.

Solaris is a dead end. Last one is 11.4 ZFS only runs on Solaris. It cannot be ported to linux. Now explain to me how ZFS is not a product with the end in sight? It is not a bad product and has improved a million fold since the 7410. But explain how development can continue when its OS is going to go into maintenance?

"A disaster recovery site (DR site) is an alternative backup facility, usually IT in nature, that is used when a primary location becomes unusable due to failure or disaster."

thanks for delivering a high level master class to the nes kids on the blogs at oracle . They can now add a new raw on their CVs :-)

Can confirm from Applications Sales. The “#1 priority is moving our on-premise install base to the Cloud.” The remainder of the “pillars” then depends on what group you are in (HCM, ERP, EPM, BI, etc.)

...first module of the required Immersion training...

@Tw3NMzZ-1ksq, well said. Only good engineer system is Exadata, everything else is just not enterprise ready...BDA, Exalogic, PCA, ZFS, SSC, ODA, ZDLRA(exa hw clone).

I was not in sales either. Can someone explain what a 'pillar' is? I have seen it used in a few posts.

OPC runs on 1000's of ZFS storage

Because they have to, not because it's the best solution. It's the "eat your own dogfood" mentality from management. ZFS are finicky and unable to tolerate the slightest of network hiccups.

Just like all those Opus switches deployed everywhere, until we realized they were sh-- and pulled them out of production stacks.

@Tw3NMzZ-1guu: oh please. Everyone knows they RIF'd the major talent in product development for the ZFS Storage group last year. Just like they did with Solaris 12, they got rid of most the AK9 developers. For now OPC is on that storage, but they will eventually move off. I happened to like both products and it is sad to see the divestment.

Oh, the whole DR joke had me laughing out loud (that's LOL, right)

It's been a while I've not heard anyone that does not know what DR site is actually.

Btw who ever thinks ZFS and Exa is dead, he/she is dead wrong. Exa is simply way ahead of anything else on the market, doing very well at customers and offering great margins. OPC runs on 1000's of ZFS storage, making it one of the most tested and advanced piece of storage kit on the market.

Like anyone else I can be laid of tomorrow and I might think that it's not fair. But at the moment I am working my a-- off and I believe in the solutions I design by hearth.

"can bunch of newbee kids do this work?"

short answer: no

long answer: no way they can sell a complex onprem project, simply, they are lacking even the most basic understanding of the real problems you have in a real environment. all they can understand (maybe... not even sure about this) is how to sell vaporware in a fog environment.

even longer answer: and in the case they are able to sell after some training, which customer in his right mind would buy even the best hw, when they know it's a dead end with no future developments and even worse they will have no post-sale support at all?

fantastic job Mr Genius MH

I was on a conference call recently with one of the "class of" sales guys and several people from the customer site. The sales guy actually said out loud "what is a DR site?" Does that help to answer your question?
