Thread regarding IBM layoffs

New partnership between IBM and Avaloq

I currently work for Avaloq in one of the data center groups that will be asked to move into an IBM data center by early next year. The exact timing is not clear nor is the exact employment situation. Some Avalog employees may be asked to become IBM employees. Some may stay on as Avaloq employees, and some may be laid off. All we are told so far is that IBM and Avaloq are still working on the details.

I am excited by the possibility of working with or for IBM but am a little worried about the long term implications. What kinds of things should I be aware of, and what things have happened for partnerships with IBM in the past? Are there any better forums or message boards for finding out information like this? I could not find a board for Avaloq here.

This board is littered with similar examples. They will annihilate you and your crew. Typically takes under 24 months. Do not trust anything you hear from us.

Please do yourself a favor and start looking for a company that will appreciate your talents. IBM will not provide any kind of future or job security/stability. All the posts here are speaking the truth, I would run as fast as you can and don’t look back.

They will IBM this up in no time and all the nonsensical IBM bloat processes will take precedence over everything. If its not profitable now, I can only imagine how bad it's going to be within a few months.

IBM has a long history of buying companies for their IP, not their people. There is a good chance that most Avalog employees will be laid off as soon as the “blue-washing” is complete.

You may want to post this on Avaloq's page here: &avaloq

Alternatively you can go here as well:

DON'T EVER EXPECT A RAISE IN PAY .... EVER! If you are offered a position with the BLEW PIG you will be lucky if you receive your pre badge change salary. They will definitely place you in a salary "band" where your salary will exceed the max for the band, and keep you there forever, so you will never qualify for a pay raise . Be prepared to support multiple customer accounts, work tons of non paid OT, and get bogged down in useless bull sh*t internal IBM processes and procedures that will raise your BP and drive you nuts. My advice is to start drinking heavily if you sign on with these corrupt devils.

So the answer to your question depends on where you are based. IBM is transitioning to a “body shop” model, and if they can replace you even if your replacement can’t do your job, they will replace you as it saves them money. If you are first world based, consider the merger date your one year notice. (IBM usually give current employees a one year contract commitment After that, all bets are off). After one year, if your job can be off shored, it will happen. Body shop!!! Your skills don’t matter, as IBM can hire third world talent at 20 cents on the dollar/Frank/pound/etc etc. IBM will transition you out of a job to a third world country. If you are near shore based or third world based you chances of remaining with IBM are better.

Start looking NOW. Do not wait for the ax to fall ... because it will. Management and HR (those within Avalog and IBM) will tell you that everything is great when, in reality, they will cut staff to the bone. Search on the internet and you'll find thousands of comments from people IBM has shed with all the other acquisitions they've made. Again, start looking now !!

You will be cannon fodder as soon as your job role can be off-shored and dismissed with the lowest possible severance pay they can get away with. IBM is a toxic place to be at the moment as they shed frontline staff to fund stock buyouts and executive rewards whilst propping up the perception that revenue is not falling quite as fast as most insiders know is true. Make a planned exit with your dignity is intact is my strong advice.
