Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

WARN ACT Circumvented

Hearing a lot of noise on these post about "is this it" which is humorous with some additional knowledge. The Warn Act is a federal requirement by the DOL and SWN clearly came up with a layoff scheme to avoid the term "mass layoff". Expect phases of layoffs to occur not to exceed 33% reduction at a single site over a 6-month period.

Remember, the decisions have nothing to do with “saving the company”. It’s all about how much Way and his cronies can pad their bank accounts at the end of the day. Nothing else.

Wouldn’t it be more cost effective to deal with the WARN act right up front, rather than than continue to pay remaining workers for another 6 months? Regardless, there are still plenty of ppl sitting around with not much work to do.

Whispers of next round of layoffs being discussed for Jan 19 right past the 6 month mark for WARN. Keep listening from those around you. No WAY is our leadership done

This is why they provided the “60 days on the payroll” for the Jan ‘16 layoff. They even said “you’re still an employee for 60 days, just don’t come to work”. This is how they complied with WARN then. Now, I’m sure Way said “NO WAY” - I’m not giving them any more than I need to legally. Definitely a better deal for the ‘16 “victims”, although considerably better job market now.

The circumstances are aligned with SWN skirting the line of the DOL Warn Act and any claim to fame on the actual % would be speculation which you can find elsewhere on this site. The WARN act provides 60 day notification requirement of a mass layoff but doesn't mandate SWN to provide you an extension of wages or coverage beyond this period of time. To me it makes more sense to hang around for severance.

What is the new total head count at SWN? So another layoff of 30-32% when?

I gotta get out of SWN. Zero faith in management.
