Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

What exactly is our current business strategy?

Is it how to go out of business intentionally?

There is no other explanation that would explain the latest moves that I can think of...

Spot on assessment! The northern folks need to be fired! Sell that asset and cut those people loose. Things absolutely went down hill after we bought that PA and WV stuff.

We got some Yankees down here working in Houston and some occasional ones that visit from PA and WV. Very unimpressed.

To the guy that blamed swns problem on the Arkansas guys. That’s laughable. I have worked in ne pa and have worked in WV for over a year now after years of working in Arkansas. Arkansas built and saved this company. We also made it possible to buy the northern assets. In my time in yankee land I am most unimpressed with WV. Wasteful spending. Good parts and equipment left on the pads to rot. No communication. It’s like everyone runs around not knowing what to do daily. Turnover like you wouldn’t believe. I didn’t even bother learning the new guys names until they were there for a couple of months. We sir were not the problem. I believe the company tanked right around the time we bought that crap up north. Had a fifty dollar stock price when we were rolling with just Fayetteville. We had pride in our company back then in Arkansas. We were thankful and worked hard for a job that paid well and was new to our area. I never saw any pride exhibited like that up north from youse guys and still don’t.

.. ive worked the Appalachia assets in Houston .. and I’ve found there are all kinds of people - in this instance hard workers/ slackers in all areas. I found the Pennsylvania employees very high quality ; and the same in Houston a couple of years ago .

What’s happened is that many many people have left swn and many ( not all) of the more business savvy employees in Houston have left .. and so I think in 2 -3 the process has degraded — not everyone and not everyone in Houston — swn .

I am a northern employee and this Yankee has noticed the work ethic of the folks in Texas and Arkansas....it's clear to me half the reason southwestern is in the shape it is in. You folks in the south need to pick up the pace and go the extra mile to help southwestern get ahead. More with less!

Hey ya’ll. Anyone else got the post layoff blues....been spending more time with my brother (hubby) these past few weeks and we have been banned from every fried chicken establishment in central Arkansas. Seems like only yesterday that I had a cush job and free sodas. I guess I’ll finish off that second bucket of cluckers that me and the hubs started last night...... then Maury Pauvich comes on, and then reruns of Jerry Springer. I remember that my cousins was on that show doing the dna tests. Good stuff....

Seconded! That is my strategy as well. Barely work. Do the bare minimum. Collect my check and look for new ops everyday while at work. SWN has no future. Say no WAY!

I plan to work less hard, actually, while padding the resume, pulling in a fat paycheck, and looking for a good exit as any smart employee should be doing.

Strategy is to work harder and smarter. And to cut costs.

Yes , there you have it... you can play a variation of the game WAY and the boys play ... take as much time from swn as you can ... do the work required to stay; but there is no culture , no future , no career development etc...

get in on time / sort of ... leave on time / sort of.... take car of personal business ; if you are looking for a future network like a mofo... charities if you like whatever .

No ELT s are leaving; and you are where you are .. advancement won’t happen.. but it might be a decent port in the industry storm...

— railing on here about voting out officers etc is a joke; it’s done and everyone in the know .. knows it .

There is no intent to “Make SWN Great Again”. Way brought on all the latest ELTs and left the others with the polished “rings” and promised a sweet payout with a 1-3 year work commitment. Some will ride off into the sunset with their riches, others will find their next “get rich quick” scheme.

They call it riding the gravy train.

I think that’s exactly the strategy and I think it’s spelled out in the investor presentation

-sell Fayetteville

  • cut costs and optimize

  • focus on liquids in remaining asset with liquids ( and not much of it at that)

  • re shuffle finances so the end can be delayed - use “technology “ to get the most out of what’s remaining

And I think the unspoken part is that there are only somewhere between 200-400 locations left at investment hurdles ... that give ELT3-5 years on corporate welfare .
