Sounds like American International Group (AIG)

The post by @U3P4rUs-3ybv is accurate and true - that is exactly the way it played out for me in 2016. To. The. Letter.

No manager likes having to do this bc they know that they could just as easily be next. And these decisions are not made on their level. Bain Consulting is in charge and calls the shots based off metrics, income, age, etc. AIG was very careful to make sure that I rec'd a breakdown of all the people let go at the same time. All age brackets in the mix. This is to avoid laying off nothing but older employees and getting hit with age discrimination lawsuits.

Word is that BH and FW will have big hits today. :-( Hang in there and start looking. The good news (if there is such a thing) is that it is still 2 wks per year of service, so that is a cushion of sorts. This is as of very recent layoffs. Hopefully it will continue as such.

Sometimes making it through a RIF is worse. There will be plenty of folks labelled redundant starting tomorrow. Here is what to expect if you meet your manager tomorrow through friday for a short check-in meeting. I'd prepare just in case. there is no turnover or goodbyes. Just a scripted dialogue that AIG has embarked on a multi-year transformation focused on reducing costs, streamlining operations and organizational structure. (means AIG 2020 moving IT AND business functions to Philippines.... 80/20 target at the end). Due to that realignment, redundancies were identified and decisions were made to reduce overall headcount. They had to make some difficult decisions and your manager gets to tell you with an HR rep on the phone/present that your position has been eliminated (probably a req. in Manila in 30-60 days) and today is your last day in the office! The decision is final. They will claim it was not easy and only after a long and careful review of many options were you selected....(sorry. keep your skills, career profile and training updated in your next job). At that point, reguardless of your response, you'll be dumped on the HR rep for everything else. (exit manager as a mouthpiece, dont look him in the eye because he will wet himself). Once all employees are terminated and verified, the now reduced headcount manager/director/head of will be let go (in most cases)... Those that remain after friday, continue in the deadpool. It will be a slippery slope until 2020 savings are realized and US based employees are bare bones. It is all about getting things lower the next couple years. Leftovers will have to do 'more with less' and other constricting language. As AIG buys other entities, they will cut what they are now to the quick. Go luck.

no one really cares about IT? Tell that to the children and family members who are affected by these layoffs. You should try thinking before you speak, I think you will be in the same boat one day and I hope you are!!

Current CIO has never been even an IO. Disaster is around the corner, By then, new Management would have cashed in and left, as has been the case for the last many years. We have many seemingly underhanded things going on like the company we bought recently, where the current CEO used to work. Now, how does that sound?

IT cannot out perform the incompetency of the budiness. So, just outsource it. Offshoring IT is going to be a disaster that will be abandoned in 18 month when the next CIO fails.
