So someone who is getting a discontinued shoe that was once $98 for $33 wants a discount for a slipping sole. That's the cheap shopper we're bringing in now. I'm in a top 100 store mind you.

I was a shoe mgr. 4 yrs ago. Don't forget. at one time shoe clearance was going for 70-80 percent off during ODS. That 98.00 shoe that is now last act would have gone out of the door for 20.00. Give them the 3.00 and take the 96.00.
Don't blame the consumer. For 10 years we gave away the house. We trained the consumer by flooding them with coupons and are continuing to do so.
We play the 50 percent off with an extra 20uyc or 70% special the next day. Yea the customers want to use the coupon.
Not to mention that first Mark's with a coupon is better than the hard last act mark anyway.
Last act should be at the outlet mall not at the store. It’s junky looking in the stores!
Go to Macy's when they don't have a sale and it will be cheaper. they always jack up the price to give a "discount".
I agree, just go ahead and change the price. Management always will...
who cares give them the 3 bucks off, lucky to have them in the store instead of just going to Amazon or Zappos
Macys is just trying to be TJX ( TJ Maxx)... thing is that is not their business model. It will be successful for some time but it will phase out as it will get mismanaged. I wonder how much ticket switching goes on between Backstage and regular merch...
Be happy they are still shopping in your store. I am sure those same shoes were only 15 bucks on Amazon if they were 33 at Macy's. Don't blame the consumer for the greed of the management of these chain stores.
Backstage is a race to the bottom...Macy's trading what few lucrative customers they have left for these kinds of people, lol.
