The worst benefits for large Corporation

My son just took a summer job with Trader Joe's . As I went over the benefits package with him I was shocked to find that his benefits are head over heels better than Honeywells in every category. How can they do it and not a billion dollar corporation. What does that show to us as professionals? Total insanity. It finally pushed me to send out my resume. Shocked to get several responses back in less than 2 weeks. We all fools if we continue to accept the abuse.

When I was out of work a couple of years ago before the economy got cooking again (at least for engineering) one of the part-time jobs I picked up an application for, was at a Trader Joe's, knowing about how good their benefits are. Even if you only make $12-15 if you get health insurance, where else are you gonna get that, other than possibly Starbucks? I didn't follow through because it was just over the state line from me and I would not only have to file an extra tax return form, I'd have to pay both state and municipal income tax there, so I bagged it.

Instead, I applied at a couple of liquor stores, and worked for $10 an hour at one of those, and went without health insurance. That was a learning experience we should force every person in Congress, in the start of their term, they have to stay in their home district and work for a month at $10 per hour with no benefits, just to get in touch with their common local folk before they are allowed to vote on bills. I challenge anyone of us white-collar folk to learn what it's like to live on $10 per hour these days. You re-learn reality, like college days.
