Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Mindless SM

Apparently it’s easy to move up for BBB if you can’t think for yourself. I’ve only been here for a few months, but this is the most backwards company I’ve ever worked for. The good ol’ Boys club is alive and well in our region and if you don’t comply or kiss butt, you’re left in the dark. When anything is questioned my supervisor tells me that’s how our dm wants it. When I ask why I’m told “I don’t know”. Have a mind for yourself, geez. BBB preaches customer service, but I can’t figure out how to even help our customers when there’s zero payroll to accomplish anything. It’s either ignore customers and complete tasks or ignore tasks and help customers.

I have been a SM for over 18 years and I understand how you might feel. We did things back then that would blow your mind away, that was truly backwards. But here is what I’ve learned, if it helps. If you have ideas, share them, don’t get discouraged. When your DM is at your store, share them. Stand out, be different, be solution focused. I hate the phrase “how do you make it better.” That phrase does have merit however. I have pt sales associates who are now dept supervisors and they are flourishing. They are strong in their opinions, but the are all about being problem solvers. They have ideas and never give up. Service vs tasks is a hard balance but it can be done. It takes teamwork and a continual focus. I’m in a small store and it’s challenging, but I see a team focused on making the store great, even though at times it may not seem. As for good Ole boys club, I’ve never seen it in my district/region. I’m challenged every visit and sometimes I get the snot kicked out of me. This company isn’t for everyone but I have seen many people be successes by being true to themselves and working hard. Politics don’t work. Just aspire to stand out above the rest in positively making your store better.
