Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Interesting Time for Stores to Unionize

Verizon Wireless, ATT and T-Mo/Sprint have all been open with their investors that in order to maintain EBITDA and margins, they have no choice but to rely less on brick and mortar stores and more on the cheaper (digital) channels. None of the carriers have been too aggressive with this strategy yet, but clearly the industry (not just VZW) is headed in this direction. It's really just a matter of time and nerve -- once one carrier goes this route, the others will all immediately follow.

So why unionize stores now? To protect that from happening? That will never work. To have a greater voice in how that strategy is executed (and perhaps influence which stores stay and go)? Perhaps, but it also seems to me that unless all, or close to all, stores unionize, those that do are signing their virtual death warrant. And for those that are going to get shut down regardless, unionize will surely only hasten their demise.

Seems like the time to reap the potential benefits of unionizing stores has come and passed.

Forest for the trees.

Great comment!! It seems like you’re in a Good Store with some intregrity left mot just ripping the person with whom you’re dealing with. That’s where I got a wuestion abt integrity. So in other words, a HUM is not an option for every single customer, & so is not asking what are their lifestyle is to get a sale in those good for nothing Mid’s.

There are also many companies that dont treat you the way verizon does. Some companies take price in integrity and ethics, some companies dont change your commission plan on a rotating cycle, some actually will offer a pay increase to go along with that workload increase. Some actually treat their employees with respect and not as numbers.

Sure VZW has some good benefits but so do many other companies and for some benefits aren't the be all end all of having a job. My benefits aren't as good at my new job but i get treated like family, i dont deal with all these metric and KPI BS, and no shady unethical crap being dealt with here.

@ 3zqs

Ever heard of having job security?

Ever heard of not getting harassed for stupid sh$t and actually knowing that you have a job the next day you go to work?

Ever heard of all that plus guaranteed raises and good compensation structure?

Tuition reimbursement is not a very big deal and so is not the basic benefits which they offer. Almost every good company offers that, so plz don’t boast about it. The question here is no one gets paid fair or enough and we’re always ask do keep doing more for less or same. That’s where the problem comes from. If the higher people are making millions & billions, we’re just trying to support ourselves and our families. Union will form, no matter what. It has just atarted to awaken the sleeping people who had too much Kool Aid from this company.

All I have to say is look at your benefits package and compare it to anyone that you know. I can just about guarantee that most companies out there comes close. I was recently laid off and it was a real eye opener when I was interviewing with new companies how much Verizon was giving me. I’ll be the first one to say that Verizon was not an idea job by any means but it was still a job that paid me well for what I was doing as a solutions manager.

I look at this board and look at all the complaining but most of it is because of from people that have the mindset that Verizon somehow owes them something. Compare your paychecks and benefits with anyone else at other carriers and I guarantee they won’t come close. $8000 a year for tuition reimbursement and multiple weeks of vacation is unheard of.

Been with ATT and now VZW, same crap at both companies, union took our money at ATT but did nothing for us, quotas we're still to high, people were laid off, stores closed and people were fired for stupid crap, and the union kept right on holding their hand out for money, so they could "PROTECT" our jobs. And I make more at VZW than I did at ATT. The union is not the answer, we need to take the fight to social media and start reporting the shady sales tactics to local media, this is what got other companies asses in a sling, people at my store document everything, including management looking the other way to shady sales and promoting false churn, not to mention slamming accounts with tabs and hums.

@-luq ATT has been union for years and they do the same things. To me it seems a grass is greener idea of being unionized that sounds so tempting. I worked at both, and VZ pays more from what I saw.

I’m surprised its taken this long for wireless stores to wake up. Seriously they been screwing with your com checks for years and look at how every time there’s a round of layoffs the workload gets dumped on retail workers and yet no compensation? Look at all the processes you do on top of trying to manage your quota and yet no relief or compensation? What will it take for workers to demand fair treatment. Are workers just this blind to see how badly they’re taken advantage of?

WHY IS THIS OK TO YOU?
