I'm wondering how many people at Verizon are at the point they are actually hoping to be laid off and escape this hellhole with a safety net?
Judging by my department, that number is really, really high.
I honestly can't believe there are people who still genuinely enjoy working here. Except for the upper management, of course.
I was hoping for a layoff announcement for the last year or so. An EISP would have been a home run. I even had a decent job lined up with a small second pension. Unfortunately it looks like my title is unlikely to be in a surplus situation anytime soon. Without the EISP money I am better off staying for the next few years to pad the K plan instead. The change would have been nice but money comes first and now we have a 5 year guaranty so what is one to do?
I averaged around 60-70 hours/week for over 18 years, and I was salaried (so not paid for those extra hours). I did it because I liked my job. Then over the last few years, things just changed. This company changed. The leadership changed. The work changed. I'm grateful to be taking a package. It's maxed out and I can use it to help me start somewhere new. Good luck to those of you that stay. The list of those of us that are still around and remember how great this company USED to be is getting smaller and smaller with each RIF.
Any one who is still with the company for over ten years knows what a great company this use to be. Really sad what has become of this company. They use to take care of the customers and the employees. Ever year it gets worse and worse.
Waiting around for severance is not lazy...it is smart. It gives you a cushion and plus you get unemployment. It makes transitioning to a new job easier.
Liiterally everyone that I've spoken to in my district is looking for a new job because of the stupid commission structure changes.

Yes, I head it. Trump said "Under the terrible terrible RIF policies of Obama, lots of people lost jobs. Sad. Under my RIFs, which are going to be the greatest ever, we are going to create so many jobs."
There is absolutely nothing wrong with expecting a severance and finidng another job. Just takes a bit of planning which is where this website comes in. For most folks in IT this is a no brainier choice. I really hope they let folks volunteer.

I think most are now numb to it. The biggest fear they have is some rebadge mess where they would lose their severance. Given the choice most folks including myself would rather walk out the door with 35 weeks of pay + the other incidentals. Rebadge and get laid off in a year and you basically worked for free, THAT is what would s---. I do think if rebadging does happen, most of those people will not care about the current job and instead prep themselves for departure.
