Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

11 people have quit across my district this week

1 General manager, 2 Solutions managers and 8 Sales reps. This is crazy I cant believe so many people are leaving this fast. If it wasnt for me being the only income in my household I would have left long ago but I feel stuck here and must endure the pain for my families sake... And yes I am aggressively looking for another job.

VZ has been closing buildings in union states. Look at the wireless call centers that have closed in the last 5 years. Rochester NY, Rancho Cordova and Irvine, CA are examples. Too many worker rights. The centers that remain are in “right to work” states (map available on Google). RTW allows the company to downsize and shed nonproductive workers and buildings. This includes this site’s local union troll who is bored and probably collecting WC. Thanks troll!

I had a feeling that Texas was not going to have a more employee-friendly law than NY would have.

NY and Cali seem employee-friendly states, while many in the South, not so much, IMHO.

Not in Texas either @vmi.

You must be out of work through no fault of your own to qualify for unemployment benefits in Texas. If you are laid off, lose your job in a reduction-in-force (RIF), or get "downsized" for economic reasons, you will meet this requirement. In Texas, employees who are fired for work-related misconduct may not qualify for unemployment benefits. Examples of work-related misconduct include violating company policy, violating the law, or failing to perform your job if you are able to do so.

He’s right. We’ve had multiple reps fired for cause and they all collect. You think Verizon is going to send a lawyer to a labor court hearing??

I got assaulted at work and people at my store took that persons side lol I put my notice in and won’t miss it. Normally I’d keep the job while looking but that was just ridiculous.

in Texas even if you get fired you are still eligible for unemployment... do your research and in most states the same is true.

You cannot collect unemployment if you get "fired". when you get fired it is for cause, you've done something that warrants being fired. You have to get laid off to collect unemployment.

I'm on my final interview at Google... No working weekends no customers no busy work and more pay for less stress. I want to quit so bad but it wouldnt be the smart adult thing to do. Soon as I get a job I am gone and will never talk about this place again.
