Heard from a friend who is one of the few WFH employees left (part of one of the groups exempted from the mandate in the past from having to work at a site) in Aerospace that they are starting to tell individuals that they must find a job at the site in 30 days or they will be let go from the company. What is driving all of this? Aerospace is ramping up and with the exodus of all the good people we are at critical mass and now they do this?

Just FYI. I was laid off in March of this year but found out through my HR person that I was grandfathered in to get 2 weeks of vaca paid out. After 20 years here, it wasn’t nearly what I should have had on the books but better than nothing.
My severance package recently ended, I’m about to start collecting my pension- also grandfathered in.
Oh and after a very stressful and rocky spring/early summer I landed a premier job with a premier company. Life after Honeywell. Better than I ever dreamed! They matched my Honeywell salary, threw in a bonus 4 times what Honeywell ever gave, and I can work from home as often as I want.
I’m still pinching myself.
After so many depressing life-s---ing years- meaning the last 3-4 at Honeywell, it feels amazing to be valued and appreciated.
I was 59 when laid off so, mainly because of healthcare could not retire. Was looking pretty gloomy for a bit!
Don’t give up! Just get out as soon as you can.
I was always ranked in the top of my group. Thought after 55 I might be safe!! Haha! Nope. But best thing to happen and know I can now in my career on a high note.
Best wishes all- I haven’t looked out here for a long while and just took a glance today. Feel bad for all my (former) coworkers.
And yes my new company is hiring but I am barred from letting anyone know. Sorry
devm- you must have left on your own? You couldn't ask for s volunteer? I'd have waited. I got my 6 mos. severance even asked to drive 2 hours each way to a Honeyhell site then refused to do so, attorneys & HR got involved and 3 weeks later I was extended the severance. Life has been awesome ever since. I smile when linked in tells me another engine/ controls guy retires or leaves and I smile allot.
I was one of the WFH employees that were allowed to remain in 2017. Legally I was allowed to continue to be a long distance WFH Aero employee. However, the level of stress and what I would call 'bully' behavior finally pushed me out the door. So, yes, they didn't lay me off or fire me. They did what they have done to many. Push me out the door. Very sad for both me and Honeywell with 21 years. No severance for me.
My vacation check was not what I had earned the previous year as that went away with unlimited vacation.
When unlimited went into affect, Honeyhell banked 5 weeks payable at separation the way I understood it. That's what I was paid within 3 weeks after I started my 6 mos severance. No call made.
A word of caution. Honerywell
doesn't pay everyone for their
earned vacation time when they
get laid off. I was informed by fellow employee that they had
to call and request it. They got
a check for thousands. I didn't
have as much time. I got hundreds. Call to find out.
So glad I took my severance and walked away. They keep tightening the thumbscrews, don't they?
Aerospace is a joke. They do not want folks from North America. It ain’t gonna get better. US, did you get any of the trickle down tax break ? Find a real job somewhere else. Plus, Honeywell will be happy that you left.
I quit, retired and got 6 mos severance, 4 weeks vacation& medical through my 6 mos severance plus one month after that.
Wanted me to drive 2 hours each way or get fired. Lawyers stepped in and offered me this deal, I took it and ran, never looked back.
The whole point of eliminating it was to get people to quit. Less RIFs means less press and less severance payouts. HONs new strategy is to work people to death and treat them like sh-- until they leave or they die.
I'm an aerospace employee working at a non aerospace site. I was told this 2 months ago that aerospace leadership was thinking of doing this. Last I heard was they are going to leave it as it is now.
In this situation the people effected are some, not all, from the original two groups (Field Service and Field Quality) at Aero that were exempted from the new policy that required everyone to report into a site. This is how I understand it.
They said people had to move for collaboration, blah blah blah. People I know are on the phone with Indier, Chiner, all hours of the day. Moving won't change that. Stupidity at its finest.
Riddle me this....are they also firing those sitting at AERO sites, that are NOT AERO employees?
Probably just a side effect of the company spinning off Resideo , Garrett, etc.
I can’t keep a straight face when I hear that name Resideo. Can’t wait to see who gets fired for that stinker. Off to Reddit to make fun of it again.
These are not WFH employees. These are FORMER WFH employees who were told to go find any Honeywell site close to their homes or be fired. They did. Now they are being told to go to an Aero site or be fired. The rules changed again. At least this company is consistent in their desire to get rid of US workers.
Working From Home
What does “WFH” mean?
-ypp. If you work on WS it makes perfect sense.
One year ago I had to drive 2 hours each way or get fired their words,
I retired.😂
Improved collaboration means more odd hours meetings with folks in developing markets. Of course the goal is to have only VP’s left in the US. Leave now.
Aero is going to the Hub strategy that Morris Plains began enforcing at the beginning of the year. You have to work at a hub sight or you are out on the street. No more squatting at a different SBG office. Good luck to the impacted employees. You are getting out of a sh-- company.
Multiple WFH employees affected and different reasons given for the RIF. Reasons include tax liability and no reason at all. Word from HR is that you can re-apply for your job at a site within your SBU. Just 18 months earlier, workers were FORCED to work in offices outside their SBU... Now they get RIFed. Our memories are not as short as you would believe, D. Word of advice to those affected....Get a lawyer. HW would rather settle or reverse the decision than watch this play out in court. Win, lose, or draw.
Does this really surprise anyone working in Aerospace? There have been many very good WFH employees affected by this boondoggle....all under the name of “improved collaboration”.
I’ve quit looking for common sense in this organization...it simply doesn’t exist.
