Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

It's real bad at the top

TL in grocery here. I just get glimpses of the people pulling the strings at the top and meet regional people briefly. The handful of meetings and conference calls about OTS I've been on are mind boggling. Everyone at regional says things like "OTS will save you so much time you'll get all the trucks run in half the time", "OTS is going to make your job so much easier" and "this is the best thing to ever happen to wfm". I can't tell if all of these people are dumb or in denial that their company is falling apart. Probably just so out of touch because they haven't worked in a store in 15 years.

We are now OTS certified. The good parts are things that we should have been doing all along like daily checklists and duties. Better organization, less clutter, more accountabilty, etc. The bad parts are unreasonable expectations from people far away that don't actually have to do our jobs on a daily basis, stupid rules that make no sense in the real world: “OMG, you can’t do that, it’s not OTS!” Just shoot me...

OTS is a reworking of the way the Nazis ran things at Auchwitz.

Regional puts their friends and family in high positions in stores regardless in they can do the job or not.

I disagree. Look at all the TMs that stand in the aisles and talk and laugh and get little done. All the TMs that hide in restrooms on their cell phones and in the back areas so they don’t have to work or help guests. A wristband for the time wasters would be a huge advantage and the TMs that work hard would appreciate the time wasters getting caught. Go for it Bezo.

Tracking would not work for a retail environment. The tracker would have no idea what you are doing while occupying a space in the store. This technology is to track warehouse workers picking orders, not for retail employees.

Sounds to me like it’s about to get bad at the bottom too. I read an article that said Amazon is going to use tracking technology to track all employee movement for efficiency. Don’t want movement that wastes time. Certainly no quick bathroom trips. How do you feel about that? OTS won’t be the worst thing to happen. Tracking your movement will.

It’s the same in any organization. The guys at the top are so removed from what’s happening on the ground they don’t know the true effect of their decisions.

It’s not all their fault, it’s because of the yes men they’re surrounded by, like STLs that lack the courage to tell them things are really bad down there.

Typical WFM, OTS is the greatest thing ever until ii isn't. Then it is on to the next big thing. In the mean time everyone is stressed out, overworked and tired of having their jobs threatened on a daily basis. I am not one to say "OMG wholefoods is not the same blah blah blah" I don't care about that. Change is one of the few things you can count on. I just want to come to work, do a good job and go home in peace. This is the first time I have ever been punished for being a good worker. I work hard, made good raises, don't call in and am responsible. You know what that gets you at wholefoods? You get pushed to do the work of 3 people while constantly being reminded of how much money you make (like you didn't earn it) and should be happy to be abused while being threatened with write ups if you get anything wrong on the Regional OTS/SOP walks. I am trying to hang in there because of the hourly wage, the benefits even stink now, but it is getting to the point that looking for another job is looking pretty good right now. Sorry WFM but OTS/SOP is a big fail because regional is in charge and they screw up everything.
