Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Sic transit gloria Fidelis...

They are forcing out army of qualified technology people, to supposedly cut expenses, yet they are keeping tons of “dead wood” around in areas that contribute nothing to the bottom line.

Technology jobs are going to the foreigners with H1 visas, or to young kids fresh out of college. All others are discarded, for whatever reason…There are directors and senior project managers with no one working under them. How can you be a manager if you are not managing anyone? You are not even pushing paper, as company is going digital. For a financial giant they spend too much money and resources on nonsensical stuff, like trying to be green and environmentally friendly, while discarding tons of left over food, and watering acres of campus grounds non-stop, even in heavy rain.

"..watering acres of campus grounds non-stop, even in heavy rain." They let that guy go last year who's only job was to turn the sprinklers off if when it was raining! No millennial wanted the position so it was not filled.

It is amazing the sheer number of individuals in supervisory type roles who have no reports either direct, dotted or assigned for an effort. And then how people that do have direct and dotted people reporting to them and don't even have contact with them. Someone recently told me he has not spoken to their manager other than to get the same boilerplate review c-ap with the standard disclaimer, "I am not supposed to talk money now but we can do it now to safe time. You got the following increase." Don't worry that increase is the standard small amount with the usual brainwashing garble you should be thankful for it and having a job with Fidelity. And then added salt in the wound, everyone is getting the same!

Exactly. I got RIF'd last Oct, effective 12/31. Ditto my boss. We were in IT. Anyone over 40 there is let go w/unqualified H1b's replacing us.
