Any news on the IT outsourcing rumor i.e. date for announcement, company (read CTS but there seems to be some confusion on the actual company)?
Any information would be appreciated!

VZ annouced some of Wireline IT going to be contracted out to Infosys
Not sure cartel is the right word for in-house IT, at least in VZ. When I was there, there was often little cooperation between groups. One particular team had a rep: "Ask for ANY change to system [X] and you will be told it will take 2 years and $200M" ( I eventually joined that team and from the inside they were fine)
As for cost goals: Senior management had some "good" ideas such as only funding the top N projects by expected ROI. Which sounds sensible providing you have a good way of validating the projections. Many teams provided wildly optimistic projections so that their projects would make the cut, forcing everyone to do ROI inflation. One of my most memorable moments, working on ROI with my Exec Dir. "OK, let's say this transaction will save $5 each time. What does that make ROI?" "$XM". "Mmm, not enough, suppose we say $10 and increase the number of transactions. What's that? " "$YM" "Still too little. Let's try $15 and a 50% increase in transactions." "$ZM" "Great! That should be OK"
We both defending our calculations to the senior execs, and they had no idea it was really totally made up.

in house IT quickly becomes a cartel, and knowledge hoarding syndicate, that make it easy for outsourcing firms(which is again cartel of exploitative employment practices) to show quick cost savings. If In house IT sets itself a cost goals it an prevent entry of outsourcing cartel.
many american firms and bank have set of In house captive IT units in India and are not outsourcing and they pay way better than Indian IT outsourcing firms and treat employees well and they are finding that outsourcing can actually increase costs and bring bad reputation as the Indian IT firms use exploitative employment tactics to boost profits and cheat both client and employee to make big bucks.

Anyone working on Accenture projects know how bad these firms s--- and don’t know anything about the line of business. I don’t need to say more. If they kept the same org structure basically intact it would be different but we know they won’t. It will be 1HB mo--ns galore.
"Can't imagine what will happen if critical projects will go to VDSI." In the VES space when I was there, nearly all development was already in VDSI (and Peru). Very few onshore devs. Like anywhere, a mix. Some very good, others less so!
I work with VDSI every day and it is terrible IT. They overestimate everything, lie about delivery, miss own overinflated deadlines constantly, come up with tons of excuses, require every small thing to be explained. Their management says "yes, sir", but nothing changes. Tons of BS guaranteed.
Can't imagine what will happen if critical projects will go to VDSI.
There are pluses and minuses to insourced IT. The plus is that you have someone you can hold accountable and outsourcing we see how that works as they ignore requests. I am all for insourcing. There are better ways of cutting down on cost. We can start by stop coming up with all these ridiculous LOE's that make zero sense and go against development at any other company. It is outrageous when you see an uninformed executive come up with an over padded price for something that is simple and quick to develop but attempt to make it seem as impossible for the business customer.
A reduced in house IT is a helluva lot better than an outsourced one. Go ahead Hans cut your own throat

I wonder if the longtime IT employees will get screwed out of severance when they are re-badged to an outsourcing company?

on a manager level many of us haven't heard a thing. NOTHING. It's either tightly guarded or postponed or not as big as planned. Seriously have no idea.
