These are rolling layoffs. There will be more next week all the way through the end of September. Then there will be a break & more again before year end.
This sounds about right to me, and it describes well what we've been seeing in the past several weeks. It's a cruel way to treat your employees, with the uncertainty always hanging over our heads, but that's AIG for you.
They are famous for laying off around Thanksgiving as well. It is a very cold thing. If we weren't so top heavy we could avoid some of the layoffs. Also the salaries that Management and Senior Management get are very high compared to the workers that don't get raises etc. They have taken a lot from the workers but yet Management seems to always come out ahead. When they are laid off they get nice packages.
AIG is famous for laying people off right before Christmas. Instead of letting people enjoy the holidays with their families and waiting until January. It's one of the coldest things a company can do to a employee who has worked hard for them.
The layoffs will not stop in September. They will continue until the first quarter of 2019
