No promotion for petro tech this year until pay grade 25

Individual performance does not matter. Last year, they promoted everyone until pay grade 24. Recall double promotion. This year, they plan not to promote anyone from that group at all. Insightful way of motivating the workforce. All decided by the company where the individual contribution matters. Only simple outcome, better and smarter employees will find another home.

I got an offcycle bump to 26. Might be just Petro-techs who lost their pay supplement at the bringing of the year. It was a grade redefinition rather than a merit bump, although I have been a 25 for nearly a decade with good PMP rankings so it was overdue from my prospective.

What’s this I hear about off-cycle promotions for PSG 25 and higher folks? I’m PSG 25 and my supervisor said nothing to me about this.

PetroTech realignment was market requirement. Chevron had to be competitive in the market. However, it was the implementation mess as expected from the current Chevron culture and management.

@2don, I’m not a Petrotech, so the realignment doesn’t affect nor bother me. I do understand your biased opinion, though. If I enjoyed the better end of the stick for so long and all of a sudden it was taken away, I’d be upset too. But in all honesty, was having the Petrotech status and it’s pay advantage fair to everyone else?

Petro tech realignment will ensure they selectively lose top talents. At one-go, they signal all employees are the same.

The petrotech realignment was the worst HR decision I have ever seen in my career. Just irresponsible and counterproductive.

@1dps it is all about everyone as per your logic. Is this the performance based compensation? Nothing wrong as long as you treat all the same way, but is that the way?

Management messed up last year and now fixing by messing up again.

Typical whining millenial who wants a promotion every year and even seeks out a layoff site to complain about it - be careful or you might be next! Seems more than fair if everyone gets a promotion one year, nobody gets a promotion the next. Balanced.

Yes, those robotic AI animatrons sometimes do whine. That’s about the time a human has to come to the rescue to put some WD40 where it’s squeaking.

Big deal, you get a promotion and an extra fifty bucks a year for your miserable job. The sooner AI displaces robotic operatives the better. They might be more interesting than the mind-numbing clowns we have now. At least they won’t whine.

@b1c1– the point is fairness and is this a way company like Chevron should manage their workforce? One year double promotion and another year 0– one each makes more sense.

If you were just promoted last year, what would make you think you would be up again this year? Get real. Yes I agree it was demoralizing to get promoted as a gang bang, when you were overdue and some other undeserving smucks got a free ride on the updraft...but that is life, get over it! Don’t expect an extra Christmas every year, because it is not going to happen. Enjoy the bumb you just got! ... and be happy you made it through this downturn with your butt free of pain.

Yes, take bbw's advice and you will end up here where you are now. www.thelayoff.com.

You said it all @tit. Be grateful for the Chevron job you have. It’s nothing but a gravy train. Ride it for all it’s worth. Just don’t make any waves. Show up on time, do your job, butt out of what’s not your concern and follow all procedures and policies. With a little luck, you’ll grow as old as Rip Van Winkle and still pull down a paycheck or at least be able to retire when you are ready to leave.

I guess in this environment of closing business units and shrinking petrotech populations we can all be thankful for having a job!

@xiq - Maybe it wasn’t your age at all. If you are a white male nearing 50, are straight, married, not liberal minded, you are ambitious and speak up for yourself..... that alone puts a target on your back at Chevron. Here you are safe if you are a woman, a minority, have non traditional values or lifestyle and are meek and quiet.

Not necessarily, kna. I was for many years, one of the most recognized “keyboard junkies” in my BU. Just the same, I was laid off in 2016, maybe because I was over 55 years old and my pay was higher than average for the position I had. Thankfully I was well prepared for early retirement. Frankly, I would have liked to have stayed on for 8 more years, but such is Chevron. Today’s whiz kid, tomorrow’s trash— without any warning. Lesson: Always be prepared and sit with your back to the wall.

Those who get the top jobs are the best keyboard junkies who s--- up the most . That’s the problem today.

So is the new Chevron Way. You’ve got to roll with the changes if you want to collect a paycheck. Change job positions within the company if it makes you feel better. Just show up for work on time, do your job well enough and that’s all. Chevron only wants minions, not too many employees vying to be leaders.

Individual performance in the oil game has mostly disappeared. Software and processes do all the thinking and handle everything. People are just keyboard operatives following procedures and if you don’t follow procedures you’re out.
