Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

UBS removed details of my SPP shares

I understood that beginning in December, UBS was going to begin charging those who kept their Intel shares at UBS. However, I didn't expect them to make unannounced changes to the accounts before December. I can no longer view any specific detail regarding my shares, nor can I sell them online as it requires a phone call to the broker. As of a few weeks ago, I was able to sell some dividend stocks, so this change of not being to transact individual shares (SPP) online occurred recently.

UBS has offered to move my SPP stocks into a different account within in their umbrella with limited annual costs but I haven't decided what to do yet.

Was anyone else aware of the change? What are your plans with your shares?

UBS sent a letter out about a year ago to employees laid off in 2016. It stated that in November 2017, you can move your shares to another brokerage, keep them at a simple UBS which cost $75 annually, or upgrade your account to a trading account for $150 annually. If you have lost track of your shares by not having looked in several months, just call UBS and they'll set you up with a new password and access.

I'm sorry you're having this trouble, but if you aren't looking out after your money, why are you expecting someone else to?

Everyone should move their shares to another brokerage firm as soon as they are vested. Intel's motivation for using any brokerage firm is that it is the cheapest one they could make a deal with, not one that will represent your best interest.

They sent retirees an email with the subject line "Review this handy “to-do” list before Day 1 of your retirement ". My guess is you'd get a similar email if you left without retiring as there are things those leaving need to know. One such thing was:

Retiring will have an impact on your stock benefits and it’s your responsibility to understand the impact—including the expiration rules and associated dates for each of your grants.

· Review the details of your stock account with a UBS representative, by calling: (866) 785-4682.

· Log on to: UBS Financial Services Inc. within 18 months of your retirement date to provide handling instructions for assets remaining in your employee account.

Had you done that you'd have known you were going to be charged after 18 months. They told you they needed handling instructions before 18 months so you ignored it? I also recall this email isn't the only way I was made aware of that info. I guess that's the risk you take for not paying attention to important details.

Well if that isn't like the pot calling the kettle black @lcf. LOL You're calling them id--ts when you were the one that was unaware of this change? You'd have been aware had you been paying attention. It was quite clear in the material given to people leaving the company. At least to those that paid attention to such matters.

If you understood UBS was going to start charging you to leave your stock there, why in the world didn't you move it to another brokerage??? Seriously, dude. I know you have a Fidelity account where your 401K is, Why didn't you move it there for FREE?!? Your cost basis would have gone over with it. Who knows if it will now.

How's this for a decision option..... How about deciding to move it to a better brokerage where they don't charge you? I hated UBS and couldn't wait till the day I could move it all out of there. I didn't waste a single minute in doing so.

Lastly, Fidelity said they would manually enter all my cost basis from my statements if for some strange reason it didn't move over when I transferred my shares to Fidelity. Luckily it all transferred just fine.
