Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Last remaining Sears and Kmart stores will close during q1 2020.

Any store that has the name Sears or Kmart on its building will be closed within the next 19 months. Stores will continue to close incrementally and after the 2019 holiday season remaining stores will liquidate and close.

@8lndd+UWUDBl3 I don't think you understand sarcasm. My post (which you felt compelled to respond to) was meant to depict how many inaccurate comments have been posted on here. I've been visiting this board regularly for three years. People are constantly trying to depict the day Sears and Kmart take their last breath.

@8lxcd+UWUDBl3 That was the point. People should not post anything that is not 100% accurate and provable. People should post stuff when they have links for proof, or else be quiet and stick to playing video games in their mom's basement. Misleading information or guess, need not be posted, and I will continue to ridicule them when I see them. Links or it didn't happen.

Shocking! Up to this point, EVERYTHING on here has been spot-on accurate. Looks like this is the first post to be wrong. ;-)

Fast Eddie is no SSKresge without a doubt. Fast Eddie is cheating merchants, owners, leaders of Sears 2.0, and k–ling these once respected brands. In areas where these stores still exist, build giant Walmarts and Targets to drive out Fast Eddie pollution.

Let's tell it like it is, someone bought ALL of the REAL ESTATE for ALL the KMART and SEARS Stores, and other real estate, from AUTO, Franchises etc, for the mere some of $5B, what deal.

If this is not FRAUD, maybe not criminal but surely not something I would ever consider, GREED u bet,,,

Former Kmart Apparel manager from years back; worked there 7 + years and had a small pension. Was sent an mail by Sears a year and 1/2 ago letting me know I could have my pension bought out in lump sum.....was an id–t and ignored it until too late, now I get a letter from federal Pension Guaranty board saying "we got this". Hidden in the letter was a nice little sentence that says basically "...most people's pension payouts will not change, but...".

What a joke. Joe Antonini was the guy who started the long and painful decent into hell the current stores are in. I worked in the Detroit area in the late 80's.....he would tour and strut around the local stores like a King surveying his Kingdom, and of course all was right in the world because he saw perfect stores, perfectly maintained and with fully stock shelves and clothing racks. The joke was we always knew when and where he was going, so a crew was put together to spiff up the stores he was going to see, with the direction to not make them look too perfect, and of course 'hot' seasonal items were not re-stocked too well so he could see his master plan working to perfection. He apparently never caught on and never asked or saw the real problems....so he I am in 2019 with no more Kmart pension, and just another company I used to work for that is a a total goner

Maybe if we didn't stop almost all advertising then we would more customers and therefore more sales and profit. Eddie and corporate marketing id--ts are responsible.

Doesn't matter what size you pare the company down to, ain't no way its going to cover the debt that's coming due. Eddie can kick that can down the road, but someday soon the music will stop.

we have 20 stores in our district and none are profitable. I know that they may make some money but i am going by YoY sales and when every store is down at least 25% or more and YoY sales for each store is down at least a million, I cant imagine other store making any profit to offset the debt.

I know offshore store make money and some Sears in larger mall make money but our store is in the fourth riches county in America (according to the 2010 census) and we are only 15 minutes from the 6th largest metropoitan area in the country. So how can SHC survive?

Being profitable nowadays means cutting payroll to the bone...not ordering supplies so that associates are spending their own money buying toilet paper for store restrooms,...Cashiers and consultative associates being badgered for not getting credit apps and PA's.....and being told that having a big day in sales without a good day in PA's is unacceptable because the associate makes money on the sale but the company loses out on profit....so the associate is told that he should let a big sale walk if he cannot get a PA on it.

They have already closed profitable stores so they aren't exempt from closing either. If remaining profitable stores are losing money

The company said that it identified 100 unprofitable stores and they are already closing, so the remaining stores should be profitable if SSS didn't drop too much.

I think it's possible Sears makes a turnaround but with smaller stores and and less stores maybe 500-700 instead of 800.

The most profitable stores should stay open as long as they are profitable.

Believe it or not, there are a handful of thriving stores that the company is investing in. My store being on of them. But yes, I'm no fool, I think it's ridiculous to think that the few stores that have been gaining momentum and still making EBITA will rescue this company. For Mega stores that are still running increases and out of the roof contributions, it amazes me how much task are being thrown at us to complete the restructuring within our 4 walls. New product lines and assortments all for what? The company will go under. The question is when and what does the company expect to gain from reinventing a few stores?

To 1uby....either you are a shill for the company, or you have your head in the sand....Sears has not reported a profitable quarter since 2010....8 years ago....How many other major retailers have gone that long without being profitable and then were able to turn things around?

To 1fso......Even if it is true that your store might be making sales and profit, a few stores doing well versus several hundred stores doing poorly is the actual situation and if Sears and KMart goes under, your store is going down with all the rest of them.

@1hwn Just about all of the "thriving" stores were sold off long ago, because they were usually in choice locations. Location is 3/4 of the equation of a successful store. The better the location, the more valuable the real estate, and so those stores were sold.

Most of what's left now are stores in less than stellar locations. Dead or dying malls or strip malls come to mind. If you think that Sears and Kmart will do well once its store base is "right sized" I have wonderful oceanfront property a few miles east of Vegas to show you...

@UWUDBl3-vjg I totally agree if Sears is out of $$$ how the hell are they going to operate this xmas? I assume that Eddie thought the Kenmore deal would basically pump money for this xmas along with him getting some money, however since PBGC is involved the Kenmore sale has basically been quiet obviously not benefiting Eddie.

I honestly think we can't go another year its just nuts at this point.

@1hkm brings up a valid point. So many of these posters come across as illiterate buffoons and at some point soon they will need to seek out other employment. If you are intelligent, then write in the manner of an intelligent person. Potential employers notice such things. Playing stupid all your life is not likely to move you in the direction you want to be headed. I am trying to show compassion and empathy for your future well being.

Our local Sears and Kmart are I must say very well stocked, clean and full of shoppers. My Sears where I work is making sales and profit as is the nearby Kmart. Maybe this is true of the closings but highly unlikely.

axg here. I was just in a Sears and a Kmart today. I don't know how they stay in business, those sad places. They look very shabby and hopeless, yet the employees are quite nice to the customers. Too bad for them. OP is trolling I think.

You do realize there is no money left. Hell they can even make payroll after 9/15 so there is no way the company gets out of the first half of 2019 alive. When paychecks dont get paid in 15 days its over folks
