Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

1 year out of Intel

I have left PTD a year ago after seeing the ACT circus.

There is a reason why PTD is hiring only RCGs. If you compare what a PhD is doing there (and the number of hours it works) with other research organizations in the industry, experienced people will leave within days. Why would a company pay so much for a PhD to look at red/green charts? What a waste.

Is that how innovation is being fostered?

After a few years there, It took me a while to go back into research and development at my new job. My skills weren't sharp.

No job is perfect, but there are plenty more suitable for a PhD. The world is big.

You are correct. PTD does not need PHD engineers to do that work. They only hire PHDs at that pay scale so that the remainder of the company can higher lower level engineers at even lower salaries.

Pretty sad what happens to PhD when absorbed into the salt mines of PTD. There is little innovation or inventive thinking allowed, just do as the SA demands
