Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Live unload

No longer a Sam’s employee I left the company a little over a month ago, I was a long time receiving associate now hearing about this live unload and am interested as to what it is because I still care about my former co employees and still care about my old job and how it’s changing. Anyone able to explain what this is all about?

Guys, the reason for this is that the trucking industry has a driver shortage right now.

They’re trying to be extra efficient with drivers time so that they don’t quit the private fleet and so that non private fleet drivers prefer delivering to Walmart.

The driver shortage is a real legit thing. They’re just trying to ensure we can flow product.

Don’t know why they didn’t tell you why some of this is happening.

Slow down. We can only unload so many (or so few 😁) trucks in an 8 hour shift. We can't work over 40 hours. Or sometimes, less than that. They can't make us work any faster. Believe me, it's all going to come back and bite them in the a$$. These carriers are going to start charging if they have to sit there. Unload whatever you can unload without rushing around like a crazy person, then leave.

willy nilly paper and water trucks are not the only problems...we now receive our DC trucks delivered by Prime...some times they are on time some times late or early...we have had 2 on the schedule for a single night that did not arrive til days later with that day's DC giving us three or more t once....truck scheduling is totally out of control and out management are doing nothing to help fix it.....may be the y can't fix the shcedule but getting help to haul the freight off the dock is like pulling hen's teeth........

It's true that you have to unload the trucks if they are hours late. However, it does not say you have to unload them as soon as they arrive. We have made them wait for a few hours until "WE" were ready to unload them. Grow a set and stand up for yourselves. No one from HO can come through the phone and make you do anything. And we have a GM that backs us up.

Putting in breaks, lunches and blocking does not help when they show up hours late and tell you, you have no option, you have to unload me your home office said so. It's a broken system right from the start. It might have helped if they had consulted with the people who actually worked in receiving.

Putting in breaks and lunches overnight into the scheduler prevents them from bringing in more then you can handle. You also have the option to block time as " processing freight".

New scheduling system allows them to schedule when they want. Water is a major problem some nights we have 3 water trucks scheduled. Theres been a night we had 2 water trucks a paper truck and 2 dc trucks. Vendors start rolling in around 2 am so it kind of puts us in bad situations at times. We unload them when we can and most are the same drivers so they understand and when we can we will unlaod them early if they are there. Most know if they get there early we will unload them sow e can get them out of the way.

So many things have changed, vendors/drivers use to follow and respect the company guidelines on deliveries, no longer! They can set the time they want to be there, show up hours late and if you dare say something to them about being late they will tell you," you have to unload me, your home office said so, and if you give me trouble I will call them on you". I have never refused to unload a truck! It's the fact the HO has given an open invention for the paper/water trucks to come and go as they please with no guidelines. I know they tell us, if trucks are consistently late we can report them, it does no good. The standard has been set and the HO is the author.

Live Unload is when a delivery driver waits to be unloaded as apposed to a Drop Unload that drops the trailer and leaves. That only happened to DC loads.
