Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon Wireless Retirees forced to give up ONLY BENEFIT

Verizon Wireless Retirees only benefit was half price cell phone service for life!

That has now been whopper chopped to 25% ….funny Wells Fargo employees get 26% off.

This probably equates to $800 a year...for their overpriced service. The lies this company fed to us over the years, people don't remember 37.5 hour week turned in to 40 reducing hourly wage. Surrendering of Pension options with low value lump sums. So much so GTE employees sued and got a fix. Moving out of states to dodge unions and cost of living values. Ugh...seriously what can be done to roll this bad decision back. It's not like it is healthcare or pension payments. The system is already in place.

I hope all younger employees take notice. Don't view Verizon as place for a long-term career. This is a prime example of how retirees are not respected for helping to build the company. HR is a joke - they never support employees. Martha is a lump of coal. Get in and get out - take all benefits - your service won't be appreciated!!

I have been telling everyone how cheap Verizon was to reduce a retirement benefit.

What a distractor I have been for many years now. Disconnect and go to TMobile.

Post it on ALL Social Media! Copy the indignant letter from Martha everywhere. That will hurt them. I guarantee it!

Thanks Verizon for cutting this benefit and making it clear your feelings about retirees.... and employees as future retirees. Instead of providing a no cost benefit you decided to make a profit off your faithful retirees. Reap what you sow. Employees and retirees are now all detractors. Well... not all retirees. McAdam, Stratton and Walden are singing your praises... as long as they continue cashing their fat retirement and severence paychecks.

Also very glad we donated the $50 million to McAdams alma mater.. Cornell. What a stupid waste of money. Maybe this was a cost savings opportunity.. ya think? Na. Take from the staff and give to the executives. Hmmmmm. Why aren't we loyal?

Should have sued them like me. They just rolled over and settled super fast. Verlieson will do anything to stay out of court. Scumbags have too much to hide.

Now i don't have to worry about money anymore. Best retirement benefit ever is a paid for early retirement. Thanks Verlieson!

There are customers getting a bigger monthly discount AND some are getting 35% off of accessories, more than the people that work for this company, seems legit! SMH

Exactly ...healthcare is for them to increase the pool...$26,000 for a couple a year I didn't count that as a benefit...too young to tap 401k yet...and they made me "retire" anyhow.

@fqt: If the benefit was 50% off and was cut to 25% off, then the benefit was cut in half, or 50% reduction of benefit.

Not all Verizon employees are “at will” employees. I cannot be laid off until at least 2023.

whats the big deal - 25 % Reduction. better than paying union dues for a year. gee, I love my job. Want it to be there tomorrow. If its not then so be it. not the end of the world. all our jobs are at will. if you cant understand that then you have a problem.

It's not the only benefit for retiring from wireless. I had the option of purchasing $800 a month healthcare for $1,200 a month :)
