Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron & Digital Transformation

While doing a comparison of other majors, consulting and Chevron - it seems Chevron is really behind in salary increases and market value for those folks who are actually capable of changing the way the company truly works. We continue to lose our top folks to Microsoft, other tech companies and consulting firms only to pay 5x that amount in external consulting expenditures. Additionally, our leadership is often lacking the foresight and prioritization it needs to truly transform the enterprise.

@3glb, so you are 150% completely satisfied with your pay? That would mean you’re overcompensated by 50%. You must be a woman. I won’t say anymore.

The digital transformation is a way for Chevron to increase female management roles without letting them cause too much damage.

I had a bunch of colleagues of mine who were let go during Project Alpha, ESP, and RAE... and they were quite selective in the types of jobs they applied to and ultimately selected. The general feedback was that Chevron overpaid them compared to the rest of the market for doing similar jobs - project management, business analysis, architecture. The more technical roles don't really exist at Chevron, and those are the people that the company is targeting.

Hahaha What talent have we “lost” to Microsoft? Microsoft only wants Chevron people who can help them sell stuff to oil companies. They’re just breaking into the industry. The people Chevron “lost” are not those digital transformer doers anyway.

Next person up please

That’s just not true. Have you seen how much Chevron pays their IT people...?

Whether it’s Exxon or BP, or any other oil and gas company, IT is still IT, there’s no higher pay for high performing technologists in IT. That’s complete bogus.

IT is getting its proper shake - just not at Chevron. BP, Shell and Exxon are way ahead and pay their top technology performers accordingly.

IT is a commodity and is the same everywhere. It is not a differentiator.if you like IT you should move to another industry.

For decades, long before the Texaco and Unocal acquisitions, Chevron has always been a follower, never a leader in the industry. At the same time, being an old timer, I can say with lots of satisfaction that Chevron was a great company to work for until Texaco, Unocal and modern time liberal policies ruined it all.

What do you expect - its Chevron. Fatalities are still a regular occurrence, bigotry and workplace bullying and persecution are still rife and we have absolutely no accountability for those in the good ol network no matter how they act or perform.

You point is the tip of the iceberg, OP.
