Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Musical Chairs on the Titanic

I think for long-term Sears Associates that the slow and painful death is the worst death of all, I know everybody wants to drink the Kool-Aid, I know everybody wants to be that last person sitting on that last chair before it’s pulled away, but that just wishful thinking. If Sears actually survives, it won’t be but a fraction of what it once was and certainly nothing that any of us would recognize moving forward. Unfortunately Sears has outlived its clientele, And unfortunately I don’t think millennial’s or anybody else is looking to Sears as an option. Everyone wants to put on a brave face, but sometimes the reality is you have to look elsewhere for your future. Sometimes you just have to realize that the investment that you made with your time and your energy was a waste, that you had a good run for a while but in the end none of us are ever going to retire from Sears, pensions are not gonna be what everybody thinks they are And the stock will dropped to nothing. Sears will continue to cut positions moving forward, no one is safe, that’s not a projection, it’s a fact. At this point everyone needs to take care of themselves first, put down the cup of Kool-Aid and see it for what it is and take the necessary steps to further your career elsewhere.

There are many job openings on indeed.com and others. I am talking about decent jobs with good pay. Companies require good people more than ever. For those of you still employed by Sears, I would suggest getting your resume out there before it's too late. From experience, I know it's better to stay ahead of the curve rather than waiting around and hoping for the best. Once the boom is lowered it's much more difficult to look for a job after you are let go. As the poster said, there is a high probability of this company failing in the next year or so. Example of why we are failing as a company: My wife and I were shopping at Kohl's yesterday. The store was crowded even for a Monday evening. Why? Good selection of merchandise and their aggressive discounting and use of coupons.... the Sears shop-your-way rewards/point system is too confusing for the average customer. They don't want points, they want the coupons and discounts taken at the register immediately. Plus, the check out experience at Kohl's is much better than Sears.... not just Kohl's but many other stores as well.
