Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Next Round of cuts this 7/19

The next round of store level cuts is this Thursday. There will be cuts in both Sears and Kmart stores according to my source in HR. Some stores will lose all of their leads and ASM. They will just stay with the store manager and 3 supervisors. The store manager will be the only one still on salary compensation, everyone else will have a pay cut and will be hourly. This is another cost saving measure. This is not for all stores.

So if it isnt fake, where are the layoffs? Proof is in the results. Nothing happened so must have been a fake post.

If you are a hard working ASM, SM, DM etc. why would you stay? Why stay if the working conditions are terrible, the pay is low, the future is bleak, the company support is non existent, the stress is through the roof, the equipment and computers are ancient, the stores are a mess...?

If you are so hard working why would you not go to another retailer with a future, advancement, modern amenities, better pay, better future? Just a question to try to understand why you would stay.

Most ASM, SM, DM i know stay because they can goof off and get paid without fear of being fired (laid off maybe) because they know no one in their right mind would take their place.

No tools, no resources and minimal oversight. When stuff doesn't get done (or done correctly) there is no or minimal repercussions. It teaches people to slack off. Salary just compounds it.

And then the truly qualified get fed up and leave.

@1end - "Just an FYI...not all regions, districts or stores are run by lazy, incompetent salaried managers." Your statement is 100% correct, however, it notes the exception, not the rule. During my long tenure with Sears my observation of salaried mangers would have been, 40% incompetent, 50% adequate, and 10% excellent. If the term lazy is used to identify those that lacked good time management and prioritizing skills, then that would have been 65% of the salaried managers.

@1end- Your name says it all... We all have one end, no matter how hard we work, and that is unemployment.

Just an FYI...not all regions, districts or stores are run by lazy, incompetent salaried managers. Soeaking for myself and my staff, we work harder than anyone at any given time. We wont let our associates do what we are not cabable or willing to do ourselves. We make uo for the lack of hours and hourly associates to keep our business running. We have unlimited time to get things done. The click never stops and we earn our keep. Stores and districts like ours with integrity and passion is what has kept the company from drowning. We pay your bills by busting our tails day in and day out. We stay not because we hope we will survive but because we have pride in what we do. We unload containers, process, search high and low for web orders, cover MPU, code 1s, code 2s code 3s and more. We clean and restock restrooms, breakrooms and bodily fluid. We wake up at 2 am to secure store when alarms are breached. We customer assist and escort shoplifters. We are there to protect are associates from tempered Members. We are always on the clock and push every single day to survive.

Where's your passion? Dedication? Commitment? Call out? Not in my store. Wouldn't think about it.

West is Best and we are the reason why.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

We only have 1 salaried ASM in our Sears store everyone else clocks in and out. The SM is the only other person who is salaried.

Not all ASMs were made salary or punch in and out. I am a soft lines ASM at Sears and I’m still on salary. The ones that punch in and out were the ones that were cut and offered the new Zone Supervisor position. It was all based on BU’s volume. How about you catch up?!? Love a know it all that knows nothing. Lol

Asms haven’t been salary since the beginning of last year. They punch in and out just like everyone else. The only person that has been salary is the store manager. Catch up people.

Salaried positions need to go. Assistants want the $ but not the work. The peon workers who bust freight , unload hot trucks in hot receiving are the ones who deserve more money.

Maybe some assistants slack, but many others are doing the majority of their managers work.

No one is watching credit cards for location verification. No one is calling the stores at random times to see if salaried people are present for the shifts they schedule themselves for. The rot and theft starts at corporate and goes all the way down as far as its allowed.

Its like dm's and those above them don't want the trouble of having to hire and train new people.

It's like they keep cutting hours of sales staff to see improvements and get the others to actually work. But they're not realizing the people they salary are continuing to s--- the resources dry instead of improving anything.

@Ubxyd60-lbx I have to agree with you on that. The ASM's we got all they do is boss around and don't take action with issues. They basically call one of the leads/coordinators and throw them to do their job. I remember when we had 2 ASMs (before they got fired) they worked well don't get me wrong, but man would they take nice long breaks. At this point with so many cuts the ASMs should of tooken more initiative to understand that we got so many cuts. However the ASMs would do way more tahn our SM he is the one that could go and we would still be fine since he doesnt really do nothing.

I'd say assistants need to go. Come in whenever they want, hang in break room or checkouts. When asked to work they moan. They don't work like associates for sure.

No we as ASM's are considered salaried but we are required to punch in and out and track our hours. I even signed a document to such when I got moved to ASM. Yes our salary is based on working 48 hours in a week and if we work over we get paid over but we are still a different line item in the budget outside of hourly employees.

I would say my store should be affected since our sales arent that overall great, but I could be wrong. Would it go by performance of the top 200 or 100 stores? How will it be based on any more intel OP?

Yes I agree!

Regular employees are expected to hit the floor running as soon as they click in while management is eating breakfast in the hub!

Rediculous

Every single employee should be hourly. That would cut a ton of expense from the part time managers, dm's who never leave their house (but DO get a company car) , ect ect ect......

Lazy people gonna continue to be lazy no matter how many of their peers get let go. It just compounds the downward spiral.

I don't care about the wages, just f'ING show up and do anything
