Don't forget not investing money back into the stores, crapping on the employees, crapping on customers, poor management at corporate and store level.
They go like the federal govt. They have too many departments with too many people doing the same things. they have whole departments who do nothing but come up with rideculous things to keep their jobs. They have executive and corporate bloat, too many people just waiting to cash a check and retire.
Too much red tape and too many things that are required that have nothing to do with making money. Things like most of the metrics, taking pictures, conference calls, credit card sign up, SYW, DM's who do nothing and SM who do nothing.
Started with Alan Lacy's crew. They sat on their hands and watched the retail world march by. Sold off credit. And....... In 2003 I was sitting in a fishing boat and someone asked a question about fishing gear prices. 4 or 5 boats were anchored close together. Someone in a boat said hold on I'll check on my phone.....Fishing Guys!!......... I got back from my fishing trip and told my DM. "If we could have 2 day service to our SHOS store using the "Ecatalog we should be able to compete better". Well that fell on Deaf ears. I was a catalog merchant for 9 years and own 3 SHOS stores. Also many on this page will not like this comment. 23 years ago I trained at Hoffman estates. First thought...It was impressive. Then I thought, "we're burning money here".
