Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Heavy inventory

I came by this site to see if anyone else is talking about the crazy amount of inventory that’s been coming into the stores the last 3 weeks?

We have been hammered. We existed on almost nothing for months and now suddenly the back rooms are almost overflowing. All good quality too, craftsman, Wolverine, Kitchenaid smalls, it’s Crazy. Are you guys all getting this and how are u keeping up?

The Polaroids are just for the SYW point mongers. Mostly we are getting Samsung’s and LG’s.

We did repaint the old electronics department anyway so it least it’s clean for these things to go into.

Nope. Won't make it to Christmas.... won't even make it to Thanksgiving. Might not even survive to Halloween. The cash on hand won't last that long. Money for merch, utilities, and even payroll will all be used up long before then.

Unless Eddie loans more money or someone literally starts p--ping hundreds of millions of dollars out of their backsides this pitiful zombie of a company will be totally and completely out of funds within about a month.

It's a nice sentimental idea that perhaps this venerable company will have one last holiday season to say "goodbye" but at the rate SHLD is losing money that is not going to happen. When the money is gone that's all she wrote......

@UeS2AwH-2dje Thats what I mean like Eddie will not lend more than what remains at Sears when the company folds. So at this point he is hesitant to probably even lend more money because he has to have enough collateral to get paid. Not only that the company is burning more money as time passes by with the changes and Sears is less irrelevant in today's time.

@UeS2AwH-2gug SYW, Kenmore, DieHard, Home Services and Auto is all that remains of value. But how much is that worth at this point? Craftsman was one of the biggest asset that sold close to 1 billion how much can all those be worth half a billion at most?

With just 32 days of cash I just wonder whats going to happen at this point. Someone did say in a post a few months ago that October was going to be it and that bankruptcy would be final, but who knows its just I cant see the company going any further after this christmas.

Yes....SEARS is losing $5 million per day. SEARS is losing almost $500 million per quarter. $500 million times 4 equals $2 billion in a year. That is what is happening... Why don't you understand that?? SEARS is losing an increasing amount of money at an increasing pace. Thus the money will all be gone very soon.

Sears is not burning though 5 millionnin cash per day, not even close. That would have us on pace for a loss of $1.8 billion.

We will make it thru Xmas and barring the deal with amazon that everyone’s whispering about everywhere but here 2019 will be the end of almost all FLS and a huge expansions of SHOS and online.

@2dje Eddie won't take everything. He already has just about all of the stores he wanted, all he has left to take are SYW, Kenmore, DieHard, Home Services and Auto. Most of the stores that are left he will let go because those stores are not worth much even in today's real estate market. Those are the stores attached to dead malls with no plans for redevelopment. If the rest of the property is undeveloped, that former Sears store may sit for years and years without a buyer. Nobody is going to occupy space from a former anchor in a dying mall, or redevelop the lot it sat on. Those stores will be sold off in bankruptcy to some fool who doesn't know any better and thinks it's a great deal.

Should be 32 days. Not sure why auto-correct screws up numbers.

It is very likely that SEARS might not even make it to Halloween.....forget about Christmas. Very possible it might not make it to even Labor Day. SEARS is burning through their last $160 million (or thereabouts) at the pace of roughly $5 million per day. So with quick math SEARS will be out of funds in roughly 26 days.

That is the bottom line folks. I don't know why done of you don't get that concept...The only way to extend this train wreck would be for Eddie to purchase Kenmore and Diehard.....that "loan" basically might provide enough funds to keep the zombie walking a little longer.

Anyone who thinks SHLD will still be a viable retailer beyond the next few weeks or maybe a month is kidding themselves...

@2pmh In my own personal opinion, we will continue to see stores close throughout the rest of this year, we'll make it through the holidays with a continually smaller store base and then fold sometime next year during the first quarter. Remember, if we do close Eddie will get everything because he is first in line as the lender. All of the remaining assets are pledged for the loans so they will be his. When Eddie decides to stop lending we are done.

@UeS2AwH-2txr I could believe that makes somewhat sense, but what does this actually mean. Are we pretty much done finally? Is it we are heading to bankruptcy at this point? My biggest question is this. Is this the last xmas of Sears? Is Sears going to just finally call it quits. I was reading here that apparently we only have 40 days with cash on hand after that we are done with the cash so does that mean either we are done or somehow we will get money (which I don't see how we are getting any more since their isnt no more collateral that can really back up the 5 billion dollar debt that the company has).

I also read that apparently Toys R Us was at 5 billion in debt before it declared bankruptcy. I think the biggest player here is Eddie at this point he either closes his check book (because he can't be loaning more than what the company has left because than he will not get his money back). This is going to be very interesting how this will finally play.

We are also getting huge amounts of inventory. Our DM said that yes, select warehouses and distribution centers are being emptied and cleared out in anticipation of more store closings and liquidations. Once those select warehouses and distribution centers are cleared out they will close. Does not bode well for stores both this year and next. The company continues to shrink.

You're getting merchandise because SHC finally had a little extra cash to pay vendors and get new vendors. As of now, they are out of cash so Christmas should be interesting.

Why do you think consultative sales people get so many hours ???? It's because they are paid no hourly wage. When I worked in appliances my benefit rate (mitt pay) was just over $33.00 an hour. I ain't working for your minimum wage. If you are settling for minimum wage you must be a colossal dumb muck and very unmotivated. Get out and get a real job.

Our store has also been getting ridiculous amounts of freight as well. I remember reading a post months ago that he got tons of merchandise and it was basically leading to closing the store. Although my only thoughts are this:

One of the closers stores closed so they are sending their stuff to ours.

As someone said they are clearing big warehouses to prepare for bankruptcy overall.

My store is heading to liquidation so might as well stock the store and see what happens.

Either way we are very behind truck because no hours and tons of truck its insane the pieces we are getting.

The "working for free" thing is a fallacy. You will still get at least minimum wage for every hour you've worked, regardless if you make a sale or not. And if you are standing around an empty store void of customers, what's wrong with pitching in and helping where it is needed, unless you are physically unable, especially now that everybody's hours have gone down and everybody is now spread so thin in their departments EXCEPT for consultative sales associates?

Getting 2-3 k piece trucks every week. Not suppose to have anything in receiving but they have take down counters. Where are we suppose to put all the crap they are sending us? DDC just trying to send out the same amount even though there are less stores?

It is simply because the import product is finally arriving to get us back in stock. Even some of the product bought domestically is first imported by the vendor to their warehouses. More coming, but some is still running late. You don't need to read anything more into it.

When I worked at Sears, I was a commission only 40 hour a week employee. I kept my department clean, did planograms, moved new product to the floor and kept up with my training. A lot of time was spent trying to save sales that delivery mucked up, or were in peril for other reasons. Why would I want to deal with housewares? I suggest you spend some of YOUR free time putting it away (yeah, you work for free!), and not worry about their free time (i.e. unpaid).

Our last two rrc trucks were decent. Definitely tons of merch needing to go to the floor. It sorta makes me feel better that we’re not the only ones so far behind on everything because of the limited hours. And then, seemingly for no reason, the past week we were flooded with .com orders. I was literally a .com fulfillment center all day long today.

Have been hit with bigger trucks here too.

Even though our piece counts are higher, the hours for those of us in SST have not increased to get all of it processed.

PMT/RTV and stock locator has been neglected. The last time our stock locator was 100% was way back in January. PMT/RTV only gets worked on days we get some overlap. Usually the only days we have overlap are the days we get RRC truck in or on Sunday for the adset, go figure. We are behind in grill assembly. Ratchet rebuilds too...nobody in HI wants to do those even though they are supposed to step in and help when we don't have the time, so we usually have a backlog of ratchets waiting for us.

Its a little discouraging to say the least to see some people in the store get all the hours when they stand or sit around and do nothing, like every time we have truck we push out a cart full of housewares and vacuums for associates in appliances to put away. Every time, they whine and complain that it's not their job. Yet they are all standing around. Some of them refuse to touch it and all the managers turn a blind eye.

Closing stores always get massive amounts of inventory a few weeks or a month before closing. Also, they are emptying the DC to begin BK. So either way you are out of a job.

They are trying to get everything out to the stores so merchandise will be ready to sell when the company wide liquidation starts in the next month or so.
