Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The Nuremberg party was once again ridiculous

Every year, Intel embarrasses itself by hosting a ridiculously low-cost party in Nuremberg. You really have to see it to believe it. It‘s truly shameful. This year, they tried to make it look better, but it was still the same sh-- in the end.

My friend works for a small software company here that makes a tiny fraction of the profits that Intel makes. Yet every year, they rent a hugely expensive venue in the city park for their summer party. And every other year, all employees are brought to a skiing resort in Austria in the winter. Yet Intel doesn‘t have any money for this kind of stuff.

I realize that the Nuremberg site is not exactly the most profitable one, but if that is the problem here, then drop the party altogether, and instead give the 10 Euros per employee that Intel spends for the party to each employee as a recognition.

Before joining Intel, my last German-American employer used to invite our team of five employees once a month to a good restaurant (think 15 USD for starters) for dinner. Intel is just cheap.

And for Christmas, Intel will start some stupid thing again where poor local children can put their wishes on a christmas tree, and Intel employees are supposed to buy those things as gifts. Because Intel is too cheap to donate something.

People should just stop attending these events. Boycott them completely.

Intel parties s---, and it's managers hold it against any employee that complains about it. Just deep six the parties and give each employee an equivalent mini-bonus.

@1lkd - To clarify, I agree these parties have separate budgets from GPTW - I was just tying the two as abysmal, unfortunate, failing events.

Taking the budget for parties out of GPTW is stupid anyway, as the party competes against any other GPTW stuff that way. Parties should fall under separate budget approval at the discretion of the site manager. And I agree with OP. Other companies host better parties. My wife works for another software company in Nuremberg, and when she saw an intel summer party for the first time, she went „THAT‘S IT?!?“ And it‘s also true that certain people should not speak at events like that.

This is just the logical conclusion of the steady degradation over the years of GPTW. Every year it was whittled away, making it more and more difficult to hold an event. The kicker was that any group had to spend the quarterly amount in THAT quarter - we used to save it up and just use it for one or two yearly get-togethers. Finally, we just stopped using it altogether. It just wasn't that great anymore.

When did we ever gather in the town square for a party in Nuremberg?

I agree though, this year‘s party was terrible.

It could be even worse though. A few years ago, a few employees organized a christmas party by themselves, because Intel did not want one, and the lazy site management and the useless works council were too stupid to find a creative way to host a party.

On the other hand, that party was better than Intel Parties. No r----ded videos to watch. No long cringeworth speeches from site managers who barely speak English and who s--- at public speaking.

@jkv - Nuremberg used to host much better parties.

Those were the good old days. Gathering in the town square, listening to live propaganda.

Now, just reduced to eating ice-cream while watching a recorded clip of the propaganda.

@1dcy LOL would you rather stand under the blistering sun for hours instead? People at small sites have it much better!

The party was awful on small sites. Ice cream and watching the 50min clip from SC. Intel sure knows how to party!

Sounds terrible. Never liked the Intel parties. Just like everything else, they have no clue how to throw one.
