Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Wanna do our own stack ranking?

We have all heard they have us ranked. Spreadsheets galore and now secondary ones too.

Feel free to name your department and location and rank your highest or lowest. Just be descriptive which one you are ranking.

Feel free to call out the best of the best and the worst of the worst.

Re: open plan offices. We went from large spacious cubicles in groups of four with high walls to smaller cubicles in groups of six with shorter walls to even smaller cubicles in groups of 8 with barely any walls.

Open plan is just the most recent version of this devolution. Next up, work in the parking lot from your car because all wfh has been eliminated. Insanity. My former colleagues feel demoralized and that they are being pushed out. Oracle is a hellhole.

and the latest, It's Official: Open Plan Offices Are Now the Dumbest Management Fad of All Time

A new study from Harvard reveals that open plan offices decrease rather than increase face-to-face collaboration. The new oracle office hubs are 15 years too late. As per the geriatric leadership team, its no surprise they are late to this party.

and before all of that we had TQM, Total Quality Management, which was just a pre-steriodal version of Six Sigma.

Matrix Management - where you could work for two or more managers on two or more projects and please none of them. And get nothing done.

Core competency - Where you put 100% of your effort behind the thing you do best. Whether it is relevant or not.

Over the decades, a lot of really stupid management fads have come and gone, including:

Six Sigma, where employees wear different colored belts (like in karate) to show they've been trained in the methodology.

Stack Ranking, where employees are encouraged to rat each other out in order to secure their own advancement and budget.

Consensus Management, where all decisions must pass through multiple committees before being implemented.

Folks, Oracle has been doing this for 20 years or so - bottom 10% top 10%

Raises and layoffs no doubt are the reason so they are ready to to when the trigger needs pulling.

Gotta be because of layoffs.

Yes, I too heard about having us ranked. I’m no Einstein but I’m guessing it’s either to do with performance ratings or layoffs. The latter being my guess.

I tried to put in the name of a site where you can rate your boss, but they changed the words when I submitted it.

You can't do this here. But you can rate your boss on example.
