Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

What mythical companies are these?

I see several people talking about companies that are willing to employ people over 50 and pay them appropriately for their experience and I keep wondering what these mythical companies are? I certainly haven't been able to find one and trust me when I tell you I've been looking. The best offer I got so far was 40 percent under my current pay.

So please, share with the class. Which companies will hire older workers and give them proper pay?

AWS also hires people in their 40's and even late 50's. Ex-Oracle Sales Consulting VP at AWS has no problem talking with and recommending senior Oracle Sales Consultants who have proven record of working at the executive level and has maintained and grown their tech skills.

Places that do often hire "older" workers: Large research Universities, teaching Hospitals, Non Profits. The pay is a little less but the benefits can make up for it depending on your situation: generally more time off, less cut throat environment, and better 401K matching. Some places even have pensions.

I think it's easier for oldsters to find jobs in the Bay Area, at least for now.

I am well into my 50’s. I left a few months ago for Workday. Salary is commensurate with what I was making at Oracle. But bonus and stock options much better. No toxic environment: priceless.

"pay them appropriately for their experience"

This is the crux of the matter. Unfortunately, much of Oracle's technology is now legacy and their business practices, especially as they relate to customers, are undesirable. As a result, "experience" isn't a shoe-in anywhere as it needs to be applicable to current opportunities and current technologies.

For those who haven't adopted Oracle's narcissistic attitude and who are willing to put in the effort to educate themselves and become current on tech, there are options out there that will pay for experienced individuals who can contribute to helping a corporation achieve success.

"law of the jungle" is right.

It's survival of the slimiest. Upper management does nothing to prevent it.

The scales at oracle have clearly tipped in favor of dysfunction and sadistic a: holes, there is nothing and nobody to stop them, free for all, zero adult supervision, law of the jungle

Could be there aren't any. But, also could be you don't have a choice, because Oracle is not going to continue paying older workers what they deserve to be paid and Oracle is overloaded with older employees with high salaries due to its own age and the acquisition of company after company where older people stay on at Oracle.

Oracle should lay off people appropriately when it acquires companies, that would save everyone a lot of stress in the long term. But they won't do it.

In any case, you may not have a choice but to accept a lower salary sometime in the near future. But, if you decide to try to stay at Oracle and fight it out, you may be on the losing side in more than one way. You could be coerced into sabotaging other people with a sadistic manager, you could be attacked and fired because a group of employees are willing to lie about you and set you up. You could end up traumatized from being attacked over and over again and end up with some serious paranoia about anyone you might work with in the future.

Sometimes there are not great choices in life. Personally, I would have left earlier if I had known what I was going to have to go through to try to stay at Oracle.

The choice is yours, but understand there are some seriously sadistic people working at Oracle, and they may be willing to do more to keep their jobs than you are.
