Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Whose going first????

Whole body, bakery, seafood, meat, PFDS? None of these teams are important in the bigger picture of running a grocery store and making profit and I mean profit not just money for the Overloads and BezoPrime.

Um, i did work in WB and one of those comments is mine..was making a realistic assessment. You dont have specialists in other stores seling similar products, only general employees- you'd be lucky to have the sc-ap of talent my team did, but profitability wise, was worth spendng 20 mins discussing supplement a vs b vs c or whatever when you knew how inflated the rate per. Hpur was versus the profit margin of the ONE item they bought? No. Not worth it.

It is easy to see by these comments that not one of you has ever worked in Whole Body.

Many customers come to Whole Foods to purchase these products because they know someone is there to guide them to the appropriate products. Many have allergies or specific issues that need to be addressed and don't know where to begin, but because of our previous reputation, they come to our store for assistance. Many purchase additional products once they learn what else is out there. You can visit the "health" departments at conventional stores and find all kinds of great sales on supplements because customers don't know what half of them are for and won't bother looking the information up, so they end up unloading many of them at very low prices. If Amazon really believes that the customer comes first, then I would hope they would realize that depriving customers of a Team Member with product knowledge in Whole Body would not be a profitable move. Only time will tell.

Our jobs will all eventually be outsourced to 3rd Party Labor, so this conversation is mostly likely a mute point. That being said, Whole Body has the highest sales per square footage in the entire store. It also often has the highest sales per labor hour, meaning the return on labor investment is significantly higher in WB than in many other parts of the store. It takes up to three times the TMs in Bakery & Prep Foods to generate those same sales - at a massive cost in benefits to WFM. And back to our jobs being outsourced, as they continue to dumb down the skill sets required to work in those production departments, I foresee those jobs being the first to make that transition.

But whole body has the highest return. Having a TM in the aisle sells more product and that adds up to a lot of profit.

I agree with Whole Body TMs being cut. Not to say that these people don't work hard..but WB would be the easiest department to experiment with. The customers would need to get over the fact that someone is not going to hold their precious little hands.

Whole body is there to reassure naive customers, push risiculous high margin items, and prevent theft. Having someone there with actual working knowledge was a bonus. We had pplwith bg as an esthetician, a dietian, hippie bubbly bs, solid customer service, 2 hard workers that stocked and built displays but at this moment, i cant justify the need anymore. Most people do their own reasear ch, want to know if you carry it to buy to save time bc they are there .but have already priced it out other places. If its super cheap at WFM theyll likely make a special trip to get it immediately and hopefully pick up a few other items along the way, but honestly, even i buy my supps and protein drinks and such online bc its cheaper andi know how to plan so i never run out

10 people tops? At my local HEB 5 blocks away. There is way more than that, and more I know I dont see bc theyre BOH. But heres the difference, theyre assigned specific tass and they do not deviate, float, or multitask bc they only have ONE TASK. i see most of them on registers. 2-3 at deli (2 out front, 2 boh prepped cooler items), 1-2 produce. 2-4 attended to curb side and delivery orders. 3 pharmacy. 2-5 sto king depending on TOD. 2 guest service supervisors. 8-10 cashiers. 2 guest service. 2 bakery. 1-2 meat/seafood.1 floral. 1 top dog. 1 checkout supervisor. 2-3 cart runners. Also...HEB does overnight stocking mostly, and this is at a smaller store...not an HEB plus.

Something has got to give. How can WF afford to have what seems like 30 people working there at all times? I go to a regular grocery store and there’s maybe 10 people tops.

No said anything about TM being overpaid either, its about reducing labor cost down only what is truly needed to make a PROFITABLE business work, all the TM are not needed, reduce customer service to a model like all other grocery stores and reduce labor to increase profits, if you all don't like it then take it up John Mackey or Jeff Bezos, or quit before you get laid off.

No said anything about not selling the products, I'm talking about getting rid of employees, LABOR REDUCTION, most products sell themselves, go to Safeway, Bel Air, Costco etc. and the products are on the shelves, stocked by Grocery. Not overpaid fools!

Have you ever worked at a grocery store? you cut any of those teams from any store and you're cutting 100's of thousands of dollars from your bottom line yearly.

If I had to guess, Whole Body is a likely target. Honestly, there doesn't need to be a TM in the department from open until close. Aside from reassuring customers that turmeric is good for inflammation and showing people where items are quickly... there is not much else. Not to mention, many supplements can be bought cheaper from Amazon.

I don't know if the OP is vegan but consider this, Costco did 138 billion in sales last year and they dont have those b---s--- teams, yes they sell meat and such without the WFM holding customers hand b---s--- and I dont think Bezos cares about anything but sales.

Why the F would we get rid of meat and seafood? It's the only REAL food in the store. You must be vegan.
