Expired food on Kmart shelves

My Kmart has a lot of expired food on the shelves still for sale. Is this common in other stores?

Just looked at our shelves for expired food and found a can of soup in the back that expired in 2014. I cannot figure out if it has been there that long or if the DC's are sending expired products to the stores. Any ideas?

I worked as a pharmacist for Kmart until my store closed. I once bought a package of Oreos off the shelf to share with my staff. Even though they were not expired, they were completely stale and soggy due to them being too cheap to air condition the stores in the summer.

This is nothing new. I worked at a K-Mart (long closed) in 1982 and they were intentionally selling expired food...like old Halloween candy that they ordered too much of. The manager said to do it. And we had Keebler crackers that had some kind of bugs in them and they still sold them, hoping people would buy and not bother returning such a cheap item.

This is an issue in a lot of stores that sell food, not just Kmart. I have learned to ALWAYS ALWAYS check the expiration date on food wherever I shop.

Barely anything left in the Kmart grocery section counts as 'food'. Off brand cookies and popcorn and soda...everything else is out of stock.

Used to be a time when somebody could be spared to skim through all the food aisles looking for precisely this. Space would be set aside for food that was a month or less out from expiring, and it was glorious. So much delicious junk food for 50-90% off. Now you're lucky if maybe somebody checks it while they're doing a layout in that particular area, or if the DM shoots off a nasty email whining about expired food. There's actually an RMU function that was supposed to be used for checking out of dates, but I don't think anyone even bothers with that anymore.

No workers to pull the expired. Also, lots of the frozen food sits for days in the back until put out.
